Just curious as to the general consensus about a parent allowing their 16 year old learn to drive a motorcycle before having a car license? I realize that a lot of you have acquired previous knowledge about bikes from either dirt bike experience or may have had an older sibling / relative who rode a motorbike - however the crux of the matter to me is knowing what we all remember about the brazen / carefree attitude of teenagers is would you seriously let your child ride a motorcycle? Or would you try to dissuade your teen from riding for a few years down the road?
My background in this is that I obtained my license 20 years ago but never got a bike (due to various reasons) until just 15 months ago (don't worry I renewed my skills through a VISC course first). I realize that I was never a wild teen but I feel I have benefited from having lived a little bit prior to getting my first motorcycle. Mind you I did ride a few mopeds and mini-bikes in my youth but that only gave me a taste of what I've desired for a long time - to ride on the road.
Any thoughts from any of our younger riders and others of my age group (early 40's)? I'd appreciate any ideas you care to share.
