If you want to compress it try Flash. It'll make it small but it has issues with syncing the sound.
    No it's not free.

When you upload to youtube it just copies the file, it doesn't remove it from your computer. Go ahead and upload it.

There is tons of information on how to compress video, do a google search.
Any time I have had to change the format of a movie file that I have downloaded it has been possible, just got to dig around a bit, sometimes a lot...

What kind of file is it? I have edited with Windows Moviemaker before, and it's free.

You probably have windows moviemaker in your computer already - under accessories. you can save videos in whatever size you want. you can set the size.

yes there is tons of information, but compressing a video file is not easy
depending on how much movement is in the video, how much "shake". lots of different colors? Vibrant?

For a simple compression Divx offers target compression. But since its such a "do anything to get where you want" sorta system, it may end up sacrificing something you really want, like accuracy during movement. Or colors. That sorta thing.

Phantom if your willing to go down the rabbit hole I can definitely give you a hand.

I was thinking about taking a school for video compression, but then i decided it would be safer to just read about it instead. Turns out flipbooks are the best format to turn a video into.

^^ compressing and dealing with video *CAN* be something so complex you can almost specialize in it.

This is a free program that does almost all formats to almost all other formats, and its on the easy side as far as settings and so forth. It's not dead simple, however, but you can play with it.

That's a neat little program. I use it to change format of video to put onto my cellphone.
    Works great.
