    Storage insurance premium

Like some people I am going to cancel my insurance for the year so I need to buy storage insurance. The insurance broker told me it costs $600/yr for ICBC storage insurance. I have to pay it all upfront and there is no monthly financing plan. If I cancel it next year ICBC will pay me the refund for the balance. That's pretty expensive for just storage.

Any there any other opinion for storage or other insurance company to offer a better rate? Thanks.

$50/mo (or $600/yr if you prefer) is what I pay for storage.

I need to see a different agent ... slight difference between 137 and 500. My bike has a slightly lower declared too.

From what I hear, you get what you pay for. I've been told that private insurance may save you some money, but good luck getting them to do anything if you actually need to make a claim.

Not to mention, for private you need a minimum 10 years driving experience. I'm sure a large majority of people on this site don't have that. I will be at 10 years next year, and when I get back to B.C. long term I am considering going private for as much as I can.

What is the deal with the comment about getting what you pay for? Is that true? is there anyone out there with an actual private claim experience??

had a claim through megsans on my old bike... smooth as glass

Coast Capital insurance is the cheapest I have found 200 down and 38 bucks a month year round... full collision, theft, comprehensive, and storage coverage 17,000 replacement coverage

Thank you Argyle, it is always nice to have first hand information, instead of "I heard...."

I am quite looking forward to saving some money on private insurance when I come home to B.C., but having lived in Alberta and Saskatchewan, I hope it never changes to fully private. Saskatchewan has got it made for insurance. $850 gives you full coverage, including 100,000 liability, and then (if you want) you go out and buy a package policy for another $150, and that gives you 1 Mil liablity, as well as rental car coverage, storage insurance, glass, lower deductibles, everything else you need! Bikes are even cheaper to insure!

Those are base rates too! Add years of driving experience onto that, and it gets cheaper. It's the best government/private split I have seen. I don't know if it's because of the minimal amount of people in the province or not, but it kicks a**!! It's the only thing I'm gonna miss come December.
