So here is the story...
First, this didn't occur while on my bike it happened in my car on my drive to Vancouver on a holiday.
I was westbound on my way to Vancouver on a typical November early morning, I don't know if it makes much difference but the weather was rainy and dark as usual for that time of year. I passed the police car which was parked on a farm driveway 90 degrees to the road I was driving on. I went through the trap after a mini van went through eastbound (the opposite direction I was travelling on the same road) but didn't really think too much of it as I didn't think I was really over the speed limit so I wouldn't be bothered. Shortly after I noticed the police car pull out and eventually pull me over. He asked if I knew my speed etc I stated that I thought I was around the limit, he asked me the speed I said 50km/hr and then asked me about my driving history. I replied that it was good and I didn't have any tickets for several years and then he took my info and went back to his cruiser. End of story I get a $196 ticket and decided not to argue because he had already written up the violation and I also didn't want to be any more memorable if I dedcided to fight it which I obiviously have.
If I didn't think there were some issues here I would just pay the ticket and not waste my time/money for missing work in court. I think he may have clocked the other eastbound van which did seem to be going faster than me. Both vehichles are dark colors so I could see how this may have happened. He also wrote the wrong address on the ticket, though I don't think that will make much of a difference. Finally he fined me the highest amount of $196 without stating my speed so I don't understand why this was done.
I am planning on bring up these issues when I go to the court date in November, so I'm looking for advice from others who have done this before. For example how should I present my concerns, how do I address the judge, what if any other issues should I bring up during the proceedings? Any other websites would be also helpful and I plan to do a forum search over the next couple of days for fact finding. Thanks for any tips.
