I see in the news that several of our local whores of Babylon have made it their policy to silence the tiny bells of the Sally Anne's Red Kettle fund raising! Shopping malls such as Lougheed Town Centre claim they have received complaints the sound is irritating. Well, so is “Seasonal Mix” Muzak, line-ups, shopping surveys, parking and gridlock traffic anywhere near a mall irritating this time of year. Not to mention the mindless advertising we are bombarded with from the malls and their tenants.
Oh yea, so are those damn sleigh bells at every one of the hundreds of “Santa’s” plugging up the middle of every mall!
I don’t have a religious bone in my body but each year I donate heavily to those Salvation Army kettles. Why? Because they put my money where it is supposed to go and very little into promotion or operations. To people in real need. Those tiny bells click a switch in me that lets me know “’Tis the Season!”
I can’t help but wonder how few people actually complained or how many of them work in the malls. I don’t like the sound of the saws in my factory but if I turn them off, I and others don’t eat.
I will not be shopping at any mall (or anywhere else) that has adopted this petty, short-sighted and Hippocritical policy.
I hope you agree and will phone a short message that you will shop elsewhere until their policy is reversed.
