i've been kind of wondering ... 3 seasons now and some people still laugh at me for wearing full gear no matter what weather ...
but how much safety gear is really necessary for street riding in the city? i understand a helmet is paramount, especially not because of speed but because of cagers who can hit you ... and i've seen bicyclists die from that too ... but if you're going nothing over 60kms/hr, ... if you fall yourself, can you be protected by jackets with no armour? shoes with no ankle covers?
when people get seriously hurt isn't it mostly when they're speeding? the road rash and all that is from going really fast? yah i always remember someone said 'try running really fast and hurling yourself at the pavement' ... i guess that would hurt ... but if you're wearing leathers ... and you know how to tuck n roll, wouldn't it be ok? granted running u could probably only get up to like ... 10kms/hr?
i know some of you will be full gear people like me, and some of you will go out in tshirts and shorts ... but perhaps some people who have actually experienced going down can shed some light on this question for me.
