Thursday, 19th Dec. - Ride Report:
My holidays just started yesterday at 12:40 pm. By 1:15 pm I was on my bike. Yeah Baby! The roads were dry and the weather was warm. What more could I ask for six days before x-mas!
Left the swan and headed for squamish later that afternoon. Didn't see any ice on the s2s, though the roads were a little damp just as I got in to squimish.
The traffic wasn't too bad. Had a few kilometers on the way up completely free of cagers with the road all to myself through some of that really nice twisty stuff. You know the ones - with the 40 or 50 km/h suggested limits. Man it was so much fun I started to get carried away and was doing 120+ or so through those. I probably spent just over half my ride up behind cars and the rest was pure enjoyment. The traffic on the way down was a bit heavier but I had my fun so I didn't mind one bit.
As for the cold, I didn't feel it. The thermometer read about 7 degrees C. Was wearing some layers (2 turtle necks and a tee shirt) under my perferated leather jacket and stretch underwear under my jeans. And even though I didn't have my liners under my leather gloves, my fingers were fine. Didn't really feel cold at all.
If it's like that tomorrow, I'm going to make another run up to squimash again. If anyone's interested in joining me, meet at the Church on Taylor at 1:00pm (leaving at 1:15pm sharp). I expect the traffic to be bad. There will be lots of people heading up to whistler this weekend. I don't know about you guys but these days, since I don't get to ride as much, even riding the limit is fun.
But just so you know, if we get any newbies on the ride I will be going the pace. So if any newbies join us, but you feel like rippin it up, I'll be staying behind with them.
Time: 1:00pm (leaving at 1:15pm)
From: Church on Taylor Way
To: Squamish Starbucks
Who: Me and anyone else
Pace: The Pace (20 over limit max)
Oh and if somehow the roads are wet or it suddenly becomes a lot colder I'm not going. Ice on the highway is not something I want to see while on my bike. If it becomes too cold for the highway, but the roads seem dry enough, you'll find me instead happily tooling around town harrassing all the ricers.
