I'll try and summarize as much as possible...
-It was winter, the bike hadn't been ridden for a few weeks, totally cold
-My bike caught fire while parked in my underground stall, unexplained cause, the bike was 3 months old, brand new, arson is not likely
-the bike itself was paid for by third party insurance, no questions asked, but...
-comprehensive 'all perils' insurance covers only the bike, not the damage caused by the bike if it catches on fire
-ICBC liability insurance says hey there's noone liable, we won't pay
-our Strata council chose not to make a claim because their rates would go up
-so I paid $2300 out of my pocket for sprinklerheads and pulltriggers, as well as a 6 foot section of pipe above my stall where the fire retardant insulation was burnt off
-my home insurance wouldn't cover it, ICBC wouldn't cover it, and my third party 'all perils' will cover the bike itself only
-I checked with my home insurance company and there is no policy that will cover your underground parking stall from fire damages since it is common property of the Strata lot
I just wanted to point this out, maybe it's common knowledge, but I missed it
Remove your battery while not being ridden during the winter
