Just a daily trip log of Susan's and my ride to Daytona for the IBA Dinner at Bike Week
Flew to Phoneix where we had stored the FJR and Wing for the winter riding season. We flew on the Bellingham -Mesa flight 89 each one way. Great flight but slow to get boarded. FLight time 2.5 hours. Time to get a Taxi 1.5 hours. Got to bikes, checked them over (on battery teneders) Air pressure down 15 pounds on average per tire. Loaded up rode to hotel and got set for a nice ride Sunday.
On the road by 7:30. Sunny, warm and fast riding all day. Temp 14 low 23 high. We picked up a 3rd rider on one of the new Harley customs who followed us for about 100 miles. We all pulled off for gas at 1 pm. Asked him (he was local) where a good lunch spot for Mexican food was. He sent us to a local spot. Sunday Mexican buffet $7.50 each. Top ten Mexican food ever, the waitress was a total hottie as well and she and Susan got into a long chat about women and riding. She (our waitress) wants a Road King and pink leathers -I voted yes .
We finished our ride just before dusk in Van Hore Texas ( 538 miles).West Texas is far to dangereous to ride in at night. This is my 7th time crossing Texas and the deer population is simply out of hand. After our Mexican feast we had ice cream at the DQ for dinner.
Posted daytime speed limit in West Texas is 80MPH, night 65
Oh Oh. We had seen T- storm warnings for today and had planned to get past Houston ( 630 miles) today. I got up looked out window and there was SNOW all over the bikes and it was below freezing.
We are well equipped for cold weather riding but plan to stay here in Van Horne until at least 9:30 so things can warm up. Our hotel is fully booked tonight so we have a room at the no-tell motel here in town but hope to be moving on.
I will post a daily log just for giggles
