So I took yesterday off, the girl and I headed out to Victoria to take a look at 3 bikes. All of them were Multistrada's (all 1000 DS models none of that 620 shit) at Harbour Motorsports Ducati. The one I was most interested in was the 05 with 12,000kms they also had an 04 with 9,000kms and an 08 with 0,000 km's.
upon arrival I was very sad, the 05 has tons of paint chips all over and looked really rough (the seat was ripped etc...) I did a lot of research during the week on the bikes and found the 05's are identical to the 04's only they had a much nicer seat, and there was a fix on the gas light coming on too early. I took the 05 out for a test ride on some back roads and honestly at first I was sad. I loved my 749 and even though the Multi really surprised me with it's agility and speed obviously it wasn't as good as the 749.
Back I went pretty sad, The sales man Rob (who was the best salesman I've ever met) let me know the dealership would give me 11k for my bike and then taxes off if I buy a bike from them (basically 12k total for my bike) which is what I paid for it taxes in. This was obviously great news for me! we worked out what it would be for the 08 Multi-S (sexy Ohlins...) but it was still another 8,000 difference and I didn't want to take out of my property fund.
The girl reminded me that I don't need a new bike and that I love my 749 it's just we can't ride together without me hating the 749 (she's pretty awesome). we found this super cute bakery on the island and we sat down and talked about it for 2 hours. We were about to leave and I completely forgot to look at the 04! The girl reminded me it only had 1,000km's more than my 749.
Back we went and the 04 was fantastic! one tiny scuff on one side from a rock, but otherwise great. It had upgraded seats, rear seat cowl, Full Arrow Exhaust (which sounded like god's voice) Frame Sliders and all the 06 upgraded engine seals... oh and the 10k service was done on it over the winter! (my 749 10k service was just around the corner) Took it out for a test ride and it was having stalling issues at first (just on starting it, once it idled properly it wouldn't stall at all till it was turned off and on again.) I kept in mind it had been sitting in the winter with low gas and lots of Fuel Stabalizer. The Mechanic filled it up with gas, ran out all the old stuff fixed the idle and BAM worked great (only stalled once on starting it after it sat in the rain for 2 hours I'll explain soon)
So the trade though... my 749 was worth more than they had the Multi listed for so I ended up getting the Multi plus 1000$ worth of gear for the girlfriend! she got an Isle of Man Leather Ducati jacket (it's sooooo nice @__@ way nicer than my jacket) with Dainese Back Protector, Alpine Star boots (300$ ones) and Tecknic gloves with carbon knuckles cause they were the only ones that fit.
After buying the bike we rode 2 hours north of Nanaimo stopped in a little town and got some dinner, during our 2 hour dinner it just started to Pour like never before (this thread needed rhyming) we headed back for the Ferries in the pitch black (WTF why does Vancouver Island's HWY's have no lights on them? WTF is with that) while riding 2 times people kept trying to tell us something "kept making fist then opening their hands" and pointing at the back of the bike, we pulled over and checked the brake lights and turn signals nothing, we could not figure out WTF they were on about. by the time we made it to the Ferry we were SOAKED, but very comfortable otherwise haha!
Once we made it back into Downtown a nice man pulled up next to us and said "You know your rear running light isn't working?" Both of us went WHAT! (we just rode in the pouring rain pitch black on the HWY doing 110km's with no rear running light...) Fuck are we ever lucky! the light WAS working when I bought the bike, I'm not sure what's happened I'm gonna take a look today. Harbour gave me a 30 day warranty on the bike and if I'm not satisfied I get all my money or bike back and they called this morning and said if I can't get it fixed they will replace it for me so all is fine!
A magical thing happened while riding that bike for 4 hours yesterday. I fell completely in love with it
Very happy with my purchase once I fix that light! hahaha!
Sorry no pictures cause I can't find the upload cable for the camera, and the Girl is still asleep.
Fuck you no pics, this thread fails, I'll kill you. (that's pre-emptive)
