The RCMP has caught a bike thief in Chilliwack. News release from today:Prolific property crime offender arrested.
On Monday March 16th, 2008 a male suspect was located driving an ATV without a helmet on Landing Drive of the Sqwah First Nation Reserve in Chilliwack. The male fled at a high rate of speed when he witnessed police in the area. The male suspect was later checked on March 17th, 2008 at a residence on College Street and found to be in possession of the same ATV he was witnessed operating. The ATV had the Vehicle Identification Numbers obliterated with the use of a grinder or similar tool which is an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada.
A Kawasaki motorcycle which was originally reported stolen in June 2007 from Young Road in Chilliwack was also recovered in the possession of the suspect, who is a known property crime offender in the Chilliwack area, along with the ATV.
Excellent police work on the part of the officers involved have led to the recover of these stolen items, despite the attempts made to make these items unidentifiable to police.
The male suspect, age 32 of Chilliwack BC, has been held in custody to appear in Chilliwack Provincial Court today to face charges of Possession of Stolen Property and Breach of Recognizance.
