I was curious to see how many keyboard mechanics we have out there so I'll tell my story (hopefully with a happy ending) and see if any of you can figure out what's wrong with the bike before the mechanic calls me with the bad news tomorrow.
A month ago a purchased an 03 ZX-9R from a dealer (which can remain unnamed at this point) Before the final purchase their mechanic took the bike for one last rip to go over it one more time. After recieving the A-OK from them I paid them and proceeded to ride home. Now I'm not the most mechanically inclined individual but as I was riding home I was hearing a lot of noise comming from the engine that sounded like valves or something, just alot louder. I pulled over and called the dealer from about 10 kilometeres away. Their service rep told me that valve train noise was "the norm" and it was ok to ride it home.
Over the next week and a half I put a tank and a half through the bike, but never felt easy about the "valve" noises comming from the bike. I called the dealer again and said that I was uneasy about riding the bike like this until I got another clean bill of health (maybe I was just imagining the noise, afterall some bikes have noisier engines than others) They said "OK, ride her in and we'll have a listen"
So last Saturday afternoon I proceeded to ride out there, but while on the ride out the noise grew louder and louder, then all of a sudden when I roll on the throttle it sounds like I hit the rev limiter even at 2500 rpms, the bike sputters and bogs and seems low on power, but I limp it home.
Soooooooooo I have no Idea what it is that went "poof", but I should know by tomorrow, any Ideas what might have gone wrong? I don't even know what the dealerships responsibility is over this, but I'm hopefull for a happy outcome.
I look forward to hearing your "diagnosis"
