I'm framing a mixed use four story condo at the intersection of Marine Drive, 16th, and Hamilton. A lot of bikes go by, and I try catch a glimpse of one now and then. At around lunch-time I heard one going eastbound way too fast. So I look up only to watch him brake so hard that he sends the rear up at speed. Then his front end washes out and he goes for a light head bounce and a long ass wipe. He was probably surprised by the line up of twenty five cars at the next light, and that's why he braked poorly, but come on - it's Marine Drive. I didn't see the bike after it went down. But as one who hits up Stave Lake regularly, trying to sharpen my aggressive cornering skills, hearing plastic and aluminum scrape for a hundred meters made me feel sick. I felt bad for the guy. Looked like he hurt his arm, and he had a noticeable limp goin' on. He had it out with a few people who's cars were hit by the bike. The popo seemed to be raggin' on him for a good while too. All - black double pipe - looked like a Jap litre bike. Couldn't tell from my distance though. Glad he's more or less alright. I've made enough errors in judgment to know that I'm one lucky guy. Shit happens, especially on cold tires. Well, that's the story.
