Although this is not really a sportbike oriented event, it is motorcycles and a cause that has become close to me as of late. I'm not able to attend myself as I'm off the bike recovering from prostate surgery ( All's well, thank you ).
If you're able to support the cause please do so, as prostate cancer is largely preventable "if" diagnosed early enough. Education is most important and gentlemen, if you're approaching your 50's time to start having exams, can be as simple as a blood test.
The WESTCOAST MOTORCYCLE RIDE FOR DAD is a CHARITABLE FOUNDATION (Canada Wide). Will take place on Saturday, 31 May 2008. It is a fund raiser for Prostate Cancer Research and Education . In the East it is mainly run by local police associations, but here in B.C. I have turned it into a full 911 Emergency Services - Unions and Corporate event. I want to see all of us raising some money here in the province. All the funds raised in B.C. stays in B.C. So far, we have 5 Municipal Police Depts., 10 RCMP Detachments, 6 Fire Departments, the Provincial Ambulance and the Provincial Sheriff's Service, Marks Work Warehouse, BCAA . Along with most of their Unions. The Vancouver Police Dept and the Vancouver Police Union are the lead on this event.
Steve Crevier - 6 time Canadian Super Bike Champion (from Maple Ridge) will be joining us as a celebrity rider. This ride is open to everyone and I would like to see over 1,000 bikes out for our first year. To join the ride a pledge form can be downloaded from our site. It is $25 - but if you raise over $100 in pledges the fee is waived - for every $100 raised you will receive another prize ticket. There is a grand prize for the person bringing in the most pledges and great prizes for the Run. Lunch is provided at Harrison (Thanks to M&M Meats - Mission/Maple Ridge stores).
Besides it being a great poker (didn't say poker)run it is a fun way to raise fund for Prostate Cancer Research and Education (No walking or running involved). It all starts off with a motorcycle parade (bikes only) from Trev Deeley to Rocky Point Park (Port Moody) led by the Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill Team. From there the bikes roll off on their own to Harrison (Lunch & poker card) then to Cultus Lake (poker card) it ends up at Fraser Downs Racetrack and Casino, Cloverdale for the final card and celebration. Which will include a display of Vintage Emergency Services vehicles. All money raised in B.C. stays in B.C. for Prostate Cancer research and education. Victoria is running a ride the weekend before us and we are looking to open 4 - 5 more chapters in B.C. next year. Marks Work Warehouse is our National Sponsor for the event.
