I've got a '93 Integra LS. When I bought it, it had the stock exhaust which had burned through and had a hole in it. Thus, it was very loud and I went down to the muffler/exhaust place on Kingsway (across Hi-Gate mall) to get a new one. They took off my old one, threw on the new one (just a simple quiet exhaust, none of that fancy noisy junk). It was fine for a while, but a few months ago (actually, more like 3-4 months ago) I started hearing a very loud noise when the was just started up.
The noise is hard to describe. It's loud and it's "rattleing" - like a horrible Harley. It's a real head turner, and not in a good way.
It happens under the following scenarios:
- Car was off for a few hours and just started up. If I start slowly moving or let it run for a few minutes, the noise appears.
- Car has been running for a while but has been left idle for a few minutes.
The noise goes away if I raise the RPMs to 1.5 - 2k. If drive for a few minutes, the sound goes away and does not come back unless I stop and idle in one place.
I've peeked under when the noise was going on, and it's almost certainly the "new" exhaust (which now looks no better than the old one).
Anyone have any tips/suggestions? Where could I go to get it checked out?
I don't have the receipt from the Kingsway place, and somehow I doubt they would care anyways...
Is there a BCSB-like place but for cars? RevScene?
