I suppose if they show up at the Gastown Event with their decibel meter they'll make enough revenue for all of this year and half of the next!.........

(For other form members...)

Why should a motorcycle passing by in a few short seconds on the street at 92 dB get a fine by having test equipment held a few feet from the exhaust pipes, when the decibel level would be much less for the person much further away sitting in their car or walking down the street?

Why would this few seconds of 92 dB motorcycle noise be subject to restrictions and fines when the neighbour can mow their lawn for an hour at 95 db, and/or trim their hedges for an hour at 95 dB, and then get out the leaf blower for another 30 minutes at 110 dB? Should these items not be properly muffled so that they are also below 91 dB?

Is noise not noise, or is it different because it is coming from a motorcycle? Or is this discriminatory towards motorcycles? Does this enforcement stem from people who repeatedly complain to authorities because they have a hate-on for the way motorcyclists look, act, ride?

What about kids’ toys? What about the garbage disposal trucks waking us up on Saturday morning?
I'd like to see people's children regulated for noise while in public places. I'm sure every infant out there regularly screams over 100dB.

I'd like to see the cops and db meter outside my apartment say around midnight, that seems to be when the f'in straight piped harleys are racing up lougheed or pulling out of the meathead shop across the street.

The whole issue is full of "what if"'s, "yeah but"'s and "why just us".
With specific reference to your comment above, a fraction of a second is all it takes for a loud noise to awaken or startle you. Harleys are by far the most common culprits and having them wake me up at night is especially annoying. I can't say I've heard too many mowers or leaf blowers after 9:00pm!

What exhausts are you running on your Sportster?

I didn't hear any of these last night in my house.
However, I had no problem hearing a few bikes blasting down my quiet street.
A few, every hour, until well after midnight.

I'll break down this list in my shallow view.
Some of those I WANT to hear.
Some of those I HAVE to hear.
A lot of those I WEAR EARPLUGS for (work). Sometimes earplugs inside my hearing proection headphones ;)
Surely you don't suggest I wear earplugs in my living room so people can enjoy a loud motorcycle? In my backyard?
Really, what society would vote for that?

And 'a few short seconds'. Please be real, Only the loudest puck ups and hot rods in Kelowna can be heard anywhere near as far as the big twins blasting around here. And I'm not in favour of them either.

I'm not brand prejudice, but I am noise and inconsiderate prejudice.
