Need a Place to Live
Hey guys I am new here, moving to BC soon so I thought it would be a great idea to sign up on this forum. i have belonged to a Toronto based motorcycle forum since 06 have been riding since 04 (gtamotorcycle.com same user name). i have owned a 90' rz350, 92' zx7, 00' r6 track bike, rm80 and i just recently sold a 98 cr250.
so heres the scoop:
I work for a company thats transferred me to the burnaby location and i start work on the 22nd of feb. I have been trying to find a little rental until between $500-$800/month in an area near my work...port moody, coquitlam, N burnaby, or even vancouver (anything pretty much except the ghetto). i basically need a place for the 15th...
if anyone can help me out maybe shoot me a contact for a place or even if you know anyone in real estate that knows of any rentals that would be greatly appreciated.
the forum seems pretty chill cant wait to start riding again...was in an accident in june, broke my knee and its taken about 8 months to heal. still feels weird but its 97% better then how it was.

I can't help with a place to live, but would like to extend a warm and traditional BCSB welcome to you.

Only suggestion, up your budget to be much closer to the $800 than the $500...it aint cheap here.
Craigs List is a great place to look: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/apa/
Oh yeah, WELCOME

Welcome to BC ..... :
This may help get you started http://www.rentbc.com/burnaby_apartments.html
Also maybe try and look for a room to rent for a month once your here ( a hotel or a Room and Board type ) , then spend that time looking for a more permanent place . It's just easier when your local .
Oh and we don't hate Ontarioites , we just hate the Leafs

At least you are not moving to Alberta. There they would just shoot you for that

You know why they don't respond?
It's because first, you are not here yet, so no face time with you. Second, securing your rent/deposit for the first month can be a problem, and third, you have no history here, so I don't know how credit secure you are, how long you will stay in your job and basically I get no first impression from you.
Take it from me. I am a landlord. And no, I have no place available right now.
Some advice:
Go look for just a room for rent first, ie short term, maybe a couple of months or so. Then spend some quality time looking for a real place, checking out the neighbourhood, etc. to find your place you really want to stay.

Just to let you know once you live in b.c you can't go back to onterrible, even when I go back to visit family I can't wait to get out of there. As for renting, I second the "short term" advice get a place to stay, feel the city out, and go from there. Oh and don't send anyone a deposit on a place you haven't seen or if the owner is out of town and wants you to wire the money to him. (can't believe people still fall for this) Welcome to the most beautiful place on earth. Don't litter

You may have a lot more luck once the Olympics clear out. A lot of short term spaces are being rented right now by international employees working the games.

That's so true, I moved here from Toronto about 10 years ago and only go back to visit my mom and sister. The plane's wheels can't get off the runway fast enough on the way back. Friends are always asking when am I moving back, the answer is always "the only way I'm moving back is in a pine box".
