I think the 'Blade owners tend to hang out on the 'Blade specific site.

Hey, some of us Canadians know damn well how great Honda's are! But we do tend to stick to Fireblade specific sites, I mean you guys just do not appreciate our bikes enough! :)

But really, if you want information on a specific bike, you go to a site that deals ONLY with your bike. A place like this is handy for more general bike info, and it is great for the social aspect.

Yet knowing all this, I am still a little surprised that we do not have much of a Honda membership...

I found out that the signals are not set off by weight but rather some kind of electrical field off your car. Apparantly you can buy something to attach to bikes as they are sometimes too small to trigger off the sensors.

The "Red Light trippers" that you can buy for your bike are just large magnets. They don't really help..

I've never actually had a problem with stoplights.. just sit on the inner edge of the circle at an inner section.

It's funny.. I was dead set on getting a Kawasaki when I first got into motorcycles, I really liked the Hondas as well, but the 6R, 7R, and 9R were at the top my list. Now that I've learnt more, they're nearing the bottom ... not that I'm knocking them - just that my priorities and what I look for in a bike has changed somewhat.

Hi. I'm new to the BCSB site but not a new rider. I ride a '02 ZX-6R (silver).

I think many of the Honda owners are riding with the VROM group (www.vrombc.com). Probably due to their meeting place at the Flying Swan being so close to Carter Honda. ?? Lots of F4s and other CBRs in that group.

Hey guys. If you're looking at the 600 class, you can get a brand new 2002 ZX-6R for a LOT LESS at Burnaby Kawasaki.

I shopped the major, glossy showrooms in the lower mainland, some of whom are mentioned in this site. To save them the embarrassment, I won't mention their names. But if you want an awesome bike and want to save money...shop around but then go to BK.

I was even considering a YZF600R (for spousal comfort) but by buying my 6R at BK instead of the YZF at one dealer, I saved $4000. Even on my 6R I saved $3000 by not buying at another popular multi-brand/Kawasaki dealer. Still another Kawasaki dealer wouldn't even take my trade on their still higher selling price, savings: over $1000.

I dunno, it's your money.

04-25-2002, 11:35 AM
I think Kawasaki is more popular due to a more "real world, street rider" design. Yes some of the models are a long in the tooth, but in general I find the fit and overall handling/performance better for the street. The other manufacturers look great in mags and on the track but I want to ride on real roads and have a bike that can handle the odd pothole or dip or patch in the road, I also want to ride all day and not require physical therapy.
I think Kawasaki's are a more forgiving entry bike, but I think you will also find that people with more experience on the road tend to go back to Kawasaki after a number of years of riding.

I ride a ZX-12R and wouldn't trade it for any other bike, unfortunately I am broke and have to sell it, but I will get another one for next year.

Suzuki. Why? Fast, cheap, and good looks. Not many bikes under a litre beat my 97 750...in the turns too! A GSXR 750 and a 600 are literally the same bike but with a bigger motor and swingarm etc.

easyrider
05-01-2002, 02:13 PM
In my experience, 600,750,1000 doesn't matter in the turns on the street. It is ALL rider. The same people that will beat you in the turns on a 600 will beat you in the turns on a 1000 or 1200 as well. I know I have a lot to learn with respect to cornering, but I have completely blown away GSXR750's in corners with my ZX-12R on extremely twisty roads with virtually no straight stretches. I am not that good of a rider in my opinion, but the person riding the 750 was worse so I won. I don't really think the model or size of sportbike I was riding would make a difference to either of us.
If we were pro's on a track and skills were equal then that is a different story, but most people on the street don't fit into that mold.
So once you get over what the mags say and listen to what makes for a fun ride you may start to change your mind. Or maybe not, either way you are having fun, it just may not be as comfortable as it could be.

cosworth
05-01-2002, 02:33 PM
So you're saying that the SAME rider will go just as fast through a set of corners on a Hayabusa as on a Gix 600? I've had people riding larger bikes whiz past me in a corner. Sure. I'm not interested in dragging my knee on the street and they are maybe.

And to the guy in the Mustang that thinks he beat me in a race I wasn't racing you. I was cruising.

You can pass a lot of GSXR-750s in the corners sure. But are they RACING you or are they riding at their own pace? Which may be slower than you....

easyrider
05-01-2002, 03:29 PM
To boil it down more I would say ignore the mags and who was riding what on the superbike circuit and pick a bike that fits you well and is comfortable for day to day riding. If you want to corner fast, the money and time is better spent on improving your technique instead of buying a bike that is meant for the track thinking it will make you a better rider.

cosworth
05-01-2002, 03:31 PM
Well said. I doubt I'd ever need more bike than a 750. Unless they discontinue it soon...

easyrider
05-01-2002, 05:34 PM
Hmmm, well I guess I should confess that due to my poor cornering ability I have gone with the ZX-12R to attempt to make it up on the straights. So I guess I sort of threw money at the problem instead of improving my technique:laughing
But it was comfortable enough to ride down to San Diego and back, and I have a bad back. And 178.4 HP is hard not to have fun with.

And a great bike it is. My buddy had one of those, who actually got me into motorcycling in the first place. My first bike was a '85 Honda VFR500 Interceptor. Ahh..the memories.

And sorry guys, had to take 1 away from Yamaha and award it to Honda.

there is a reason for that, on the west coast we have some beautiful twisty roads, therefore bikes with nervous front ends and uncomfy ergos. don't have much room here except for struting around on Robson....:laughing :laughing ;) :) :D :cool

All this time I have never replied to this thread, I thought I did.

I have 3 bikes for three purposes.

First bike is a 1986 Yamaha SRX6 that I ride in city only, though it has done the loop.

Second bike is a 2001 Suzuki SV650S that I was my tourer. Now it is strictly track since I crashed once at SRP and once at PIR.

Third is a 2001 Suzuki Bandit 600S that is my long distance comfy tourer.

I am thinking about trading the Bandit for the new SV1000S... damn I should have waited for the new models. I hate it when you buy something and something new and more appealing comes out!

Mundane
12-29-2002, 02:13 PM
So Fury, if you have three bikes for three purposes. what do you do with respect to insurance? Do you insure all three at once? That would seem prohibitive given the cost of motorcycle insurance. Eventually I'd like to have a sportbike plus a more comfy, big displacement, long-distance tourer but insurance costs have me wondering whether that's a good idea or not. Maybe I'll just stick with my VFR (or a new one) as a do-it-all.

Triplepete
12-29-2002, 04:41 PM
One bike is for the track only so that only has storage insurance. I insure the bike I will be riding for the time being. I transfer my plate and insurance over to the other bike when I want to ride it. It costs about $25 each time I transfer and I pay more money or get some money back each time I transfer because the differing coverage. Of course I try not to do it too often in a season, the SRX is sort of a collector bike.
