Is there an arachnologist in the house?

Curious, exactly what type of spider did my wife find in the garage, bugspray the crap out of, and then hose out the door into the alley? I have some theories, but want your expert opinions.

Looks like a red jumping spider. Usually about a 1000 to a nest, they don't really jump though, they just run across the ceiling or trees and drop onto you.

Yeah, that's the problem I'm having. Unfortunately she neglected to ask it to roll over, so she could get a closer look at its abdomen. A red hourglass would cinch it. Current theory is that it was a male black widow.

That is a steatoda grossa, commonly called the brown house spider.

It is not a black widow spider.

Nor does it look like a red jumping spider

But after a bit of looking, i think its a cobweb/comb-footed spiders family, which yes, black widows are in that family, i found a pic that looks similar, but not exactly like it

Look under cobweb spiders, the second pic looks similar to yours i think

picture not working for me... but I sometimes find the same ones in my garage.. Fairly confident that they aren't true black widows.

Speaking of spiders, I was doing some painting for a guy who has two spiders as pets:

"Rosie" the Rose-Hair Tarantula (pretty well full grown at about 5")

    and

"Beast" the Goliath Spider ( About 6" across now, but will be a staggering 12" across when fully grown! )

Of course if you're young, and out drinking, whoring, and toking till all hours on a Saturday nite, forget about it.
