    It's high time for physics-based rulesets;
    why not speed limits based on vehicle weight classes?;

    semi trucks: -20kph
    diesel 'testicle trucks': -15kph
    moms mid-sized minivan: -10kph
    standard coupe: ~standard limit~
    modern tesla/sports car: +10kph
    sportbikes +20kph

    -autonomous vehicles in autonomous lanes: +80 ~ +180kph
    "I dread beyond all else the growth of the petty tyranny of restrictive legislation, the transference of disciplinary authority from the judiciary to the constabulary, the abandonment of every constitutional safeguard of individual liberty."

    A good plan but first you're going to have to grant the right to vote to autonomous cars.

    it's definitely too easy to get a license and many vehicles would never pass a real CVI ..... both could be awesome revenue sources and create a better driving environment.
    AND I have no idea why regular retesting is not already mandatory for professional drivers ?? seriously WTF !

    a well trained driver will understand the limits of their vehicle, their current environment and the road ahead which is what we need

    So I got a question for any police knowledge types:
    When you spot a speed trap, should you bang on the brakes to at least let the cop know you’re half aware, or should you do the stealth slowdown?
    I go for the brake jab currently.*

    so let me get this straight.. they did a study on several roads and figured out a proper speed limit where a vehicle can travel safely..

    they increased the speed limits accordingly, but of course because they had just recently implemented a 40+ and you're going to fvcking jail system:

    well, it backfired!! people somehow figured this means they can 'safely' go 39kph over the posted speed limit.

    real issue? lack of fvcking education!! but if all threads ended so easily, we wouldnt still be here in 2018.

    for completeness sake, i travel hwy 1 for work all the bloody time.. i dont see a single thing wrong with the speed limits..

    i do have a problem with idiots flashing their lights at you cause they figure its their right to do 150 in a 110kph zone.. did i mention how stupid BC drivers are?

    First of all, I object to the term "speed trap". I much prefer the term "fishing hole". But when viewing it from the fish's point of view .....

    As for braking ...... if you see the cops, the cops have already seen you. And the moment they see you the decision has been made as to whether or not you were going fast enough for that particular officer to stop you.

    I always get a laugh out of the "look in the other direction, notice how interesting my radio face plate is, stare straight ahead" people as they pass by going 10 under when they were just doing 20 over.

    I think this calls for an expansion of variable speed limits combined with draconian enforcemetn of keep left except to pass. Towing that trailer on your minivan? You're at 110 and in the slow lane till you get to where you're headed. Commercial vehicles? GTFO out of the HOV lanes and no slow races up mountain passes.
    we agree, dead on the same page

    when i was a kid traveling stateside, we thought this is how all highways / major freeways would be.. imagine our surprise,
    lets just say things are a little more 'relaxed' up here

    Ok but what about the decision to give a warning?
    I think I have received more than my fair share of warnings, and while most were clearly due to my boyish good looks, I’m wondering if my deferential brake stab is also having an effect.

    That's like me asking you a question about how someone decides something at your job ..... it's such a personal issue and nobody reacts the same.

    People like to think we are a bunch of pre-programmed automatons that have no ability to think. "Officer discretion" varies from officer to officer and even then, can change from day to day. With me, if I have taken the time to stop you, there is a 99% chance you are leaving with a ticket. If you just get a flash of the lights; maybe I'm, enroute to another call, or I've already missed my planned dinner by 3 hrs and am not going to stop again until I've eaten, or I've had to go to the bathroom for the past hour and haven't had a chance. There is no hard and fast rule.

    Geez. 99%. What a hardass.*

    Just razzing yah. I imagine policing can seem like a mighty thankless job at times.

    Tell us about the 1%. Do I actually have to be rushing a pregnant women to the hospital? Or is it enough that a hot Asian woman was straddling me so I couldn't see the speedometer?
