Nobody worries about that 12% tax ..... until the letter from CRA shows up.
Repeating a common phrase from years past ... "Motorcycling isn't a welfare sport".
I wish we had tracks on the Island. Instead of paying $125 a month for liability and put up with traffic, roads, dash cams equipped police cars, drama.. Not a cheap sport but still the best thing to do on this silly planet!
All I see there is the lowly 3 year old plain-jane Suzuki (while pushing 14 more pounds) accelerates from 0-200kph in the exact same time as the latest greatest, almost twice the cost S1000RR and faster than all the others which are also over twice the cost in some cases.
As for the SD1290 - great bike but totally different animal than the ones bandied about in this thread so far.
My buddy s selling his '14 here in Vic and it's solid, and my other pal has the new model '18 and I put a few miles on it a couple weeks ago - awesome bike, windblast sucks though and from 160+ it's a dog when compared to these literbikes - accelerates almost exactly like my old 675R Triumph from 160-240kph - quick but not arm-stretching. Plus, I am not a fan of the vague front end feel of these hyper nakeds personally but overall the ergo package is great up to 120kph and the boingers are nice and plush - great for our bumpy Island roads.
First Service was just done on both:
- my '17 Gix1000 - $220
- pals '18 1290 $540 plus $500 to unlock the KTM track pack which is standard on the $11,499 790 Duke but $500 more on the $19,499 1290 - WTF KTM? Sheisters.

Love the numbers on the roller but the Panigale seems to be more fun to ride.. more personality.. All we hear nowadays is linear and easy to ride. euh
What I pull from the comparisons of the two is that the Panigale demands more of your attention, which means less attention for the road. That alone makes the rsv411 the better bike imo. Not that I could afford either one...
