As of 10 days ago, clearing of the Cascades has begun!

    https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/news/2019/0...ring-has-begun

Spring clearing began Monday, March 25

Week two: The west side crew encounters fewer avalanche chutes than the east, so Jim Johnson, using the loader mounted snow blower, cleared another 8 miles (wow!) to MP 151 through about two feet of snow. (That’s 6 miles from Rainy Pass.)

This week the east crew cleared the rest of the Cutthroat Ridge zone (CR 4 to CR 11) then up and around the giant hairpin curve below Liberty Bell Mountain to the beginning of that avalanche zone (LB 1-4). That’s 4 miles of progress through 4 to 6 feet of road snow and snow slides more than 20 feet deep. A full crew worked all week – 2 snow blowers, a plow truck, a road grader (to break up the ice floor), a loader, a D-6 caterpillar, our snow cat and some pickups, fuelers and the mechanic’s mobile repair shop!

To bad the weather is not cooperating.

Regardless, SR20 opening is one of the annual spring milestones.
Work sucks -- let's go riding!
