A response to an email from me to Aprilia:

Dear Sir:

We acknowledge receipt of your e-mail and thank you for your interest in Aprilia products.

In the past, the Canadian market not seemed very interested in Aprilia products, nowadays all changed.

However, we do not have any branch in Canada for the moment and are looking for a dealer as our official importer. The branch in the US deals with the Canada market. So, we suggest you to directly contact our branch in the USA who will be able to give you the information you need: "Aprilia USA 110 Londonberry Court, Suite 130, GA 30188 Woodstock at the following numbers: tel. 00.1.770.592.2261 and fax: 00.1.770.592.4878".

We strongly advise you to consult our website www.aprilia.com where you could find interesting information.

Best regards,

Aprilia

I heard RMS got turned down because they carry Ducati, but I can't confirm this is what a sales guy told me. That is why they were trying to dump Triumph to get aprila.

I think everyone on this board should put $5000 and we can open our own Aprila motorcycle shop. 150 X $5000 = $750000 that should be enough to get us started. :D :D :D

We have full distribution rights for all of Canada and the Americans would buy from us because their dollar is worth so much more. Then we could start our own race league....oh well who says you can't dream

Seriously though, I wonder how much coin would be needed to start an Aprilia dealership? It may be easier to become a partner at a small existing dealership like British-Italian Motorcycles in East Vancouver. Getting the bike is no problem, marketing them may be a little harder. I like the idea of selling to the Yanks, but they're able to get Aprilia Mille's for $14,000USD and I doubt that we could sell them at a competitive price when you add the duty. Italian products are subject to hefty duties when entering the US unlike Japanese products.

Talk to the government about a new business grant and get together a business plan and a building to lease and they (Aprilia) might consider you. My buddy tried it with Honda here in Salmon Arm but they turned him - I think due to the lack of a good business plan. But the government was all ready to grant him - are you sitting down - $3,000,000! Yes that is 6 zero's. And that may have been just enough to get him going.

$5000? I'm IN! But only if I get my first Mille-R free!
Me too.. you can have the bike on Tuesdays, I am calling Sundays! ;) We'll have to rotate it a lot though, and no dropping the bike off without gas in it! And hey, don't crash it! :p

Was that a loan or an outright grant? I can't see getting that kind of money without having to pay it back. Unless you're a Quebecois businessman that is.

I was thinking the same. However the only email address I have is for Aprilia worldwide, and like he/she said it's the US branch that would be taking care of it (with lack of an email address for them).

The email address I do have: Aprilia Customer Service [[email protected]]

Don't get me wrong, I am usually ALL about sharing...but c'mon! this is a Mille-R we're talking about!

While it would probably make a killer track bike, the fact is until Aprilia brings their goods up here it would probably be a lot more hassle finding parts, etc.. and probably more expensive.

Their's a local guy selling his 250 Aprilia for $8500CDN I think with lots of spares.. very tempted.

Also, their is no even remotely local race league for these bikes right now.

if you were even tempted at that price you'd be better off shipping one from europe...it only costs $750 to ship and you can pick em up used for 5k canadian...still not practical but we can dream:)
