Hi all. I have a 2008 Ninjazx 6R and time to change all my brake pads.

I have read the Ninja maintenance manual and looked a several youtube videos - they just say to remove the caliper, remove old pads, put in new pads, re-install caliper and you are good to go.

A few youtube videos says that you should clean the caliper with brake cleaner as well.

My question is - is this step of cleaning the caliper with brake cleaner critical (assuming the caliper isn't obviously dirty with brake dust and pistons are looking in good shape).

Just asking as this extra step adds more mess to a simple brake pad change.

Thanks!

There is no need to clean the caliper, I mean.. everyone knows that dirt, dust and grime makes anything mechanical function BETTER, never worse.
