Daily Commuter?

Hey everyone, well since my bike is my daily commuter I need some help with regards to gear and what not. I attend Kwantlen University College and it seems like it would be a pain in the ass next semester to carry around my helmet everywhere I go. Is there anything I can do to attach it to my bike some how? I don't have a helmet hook on my bike so i'm running out of options. Any ideas? Thanks!

Padded helmet bag that you carry with you. Your helmet is a life-saving investment. Treat it as such.
If you leave it on your bike, someone could steal it or damage it. Not to mention the effects of weather on it.

Unless you have completely secure hard luggage attached to your bike, take it with you.

Hmm that's some really good advice but that has me worried. What has me worried is that I didn't know weather can damage your helmet? I ride everyday, i've been through rain storms, hail, little bit of ice but the majority of the weather abuse is rain. Do you think that I will need to replace my helmet soon?

i think he means more like it getting full of rain and mould and mildew that can accompany being moist like that. it'll decay the inside but wearing your helmet and riding in rain etc won't do to much. aside from carrying it with you, not much else can be sudgested unless you do have hard luggage.

Okay, so I guess i'm stuck carrying it with me. I don't think they make hard luggage for the 600rr and I wouldn't want to put it on my bike to begin with!

As mentioned above, water is a big enemy. Riding in the rain for an hour is different than leaving it outside with your bike for 12 hours. Having a helmet never fully dry could not only damage the helmet but your health too if you're breathing in the moulds, etc.

UV rays will also damage your helmet. In fact, it's been said that if a helmet's been in shop display near a window for several years, its ability to protect you has seriously decreased.

If I rode all year around, and you left my helmet outside, I would consider getting a new one every year or two. I wouldn't be buying the high-end poser helmets either, I'd stick to the $300 price level...which would make it a reasonable yearly expense. I know opinions to this are going to vary and you can certainly search other threads for many opinions on helmets.

ummmm....it didn't occur to you when you bought your bike that you'd be carrying a helmet from now on?
I locked a helmet to my bike in school and it got jacked.

there are a couple company's that build hard luggage for pretty much any sport bike. even just a tail trunk would suffice. can't think of the company off the top of my head that make sportracks that attache to most modern sport bikes and you can attache a tail trunk and 2 side bags.

If you HAVE to leave it with the bike, lock it up with a u-lock through the chin bar. Bag it up somehow to keep it dry as well as out of view from thieves or asshole vandals.

No it did occur to me, I was just trying to see what "other" riders do in my situation. Thanks flowrider, I phoned kwantlen and found out I can purchase a locker for a fee of 75.00 per semester, tommorow I am going to check out how big it is and what I can fit in it. If it's big enough, I can put my helmet in there and not have to worry about carrying it around everywhere. If it isn't, it's not an issue to carry it around. I will also look into a hard luggage company, thanks for the advice everyone. Oh and Remy..... Go fuck a goat

A locking top box would do it without much change to you're bike. A spare locker would be better because then you can lock you're helmet, rainsuit, wet gloves, etc.

Wewt!! I have to pay my damn course registration fee soon, it's $250.00 ... God damn, I plan to take 4 courses first semester? Study...... BUDDY!!!!!!!!

I'll keep you guys posted with the locker thing, if not, i'll need a list of some what stylish saddle bags! I'm on the look for some right now (browsing the web) but maybe you guys could recommend some companies! Thanks
