well acording to my MSF class you are supposed to "upset the dog's timing". I was tought to slow down and when the dog gets closer (or you get close enough) speed up quickely. (but not too quickely) This is supposed to throw off teh animal and confuse it enough for you to avoid it

stay just enough ahead of the dog so he chases you for miles and miles and then passes out from exhaustion - even taunt him if he shows signs of slowing down so that he'll keep chasing you...at least the rabid dog will get lost if he chases you far enough.

When my brother and I were sharing a basement suite there was a dog that used to chase us on one of our routes away from home.

One particular day my brother had a block head start on me and the dog went for him. He paced the dog as I accelerated up from the rear. At the last possible moment he cracked the throttle leaving the dog in the dust and me coming up on him rapidly. Because of my brothers noisy exhast the dog was unaware of my approach from the rear.

As I roared up on him I booted him in the ass and he rolled head over heels to the curb. :rockon

Never had a problem with that dog after that.

Safety first. ;) I'll slow down and then speed up (as above noted). But as much as I love dogs, if he gets under my front tire I'll roll over him. Either way, I'll try to kick the dog as I roll by cuz -though it seems cruel- dogs CAN learn to not chase bikes. Consider as well: if you go down trying to avoid the dog, there's no way you'll ever get the dog's owner to cough up the coin for damage to your bike. :rolleyes

slow down, let it get in front of you, quickly pop a wheelie over it and use the dog to launch, and bust a sick tabletop, come down, and give a one-fingered salute to the dog and his owner.

damn i wish i could do that

Don't boot the dog, it's just excited and wants to go for a rip.....it's just pissed that you can 'run" faster than it can.... and it wants to bite you in the ass and face...specially your face.

if it is a smaller dog, read yappy or likes to sit on the lap of a cager while driving. I would slow down let it get in front and run it over hoping to end it FAST. I cannot stand those dogs,

large dogs have a place it is in the country keeping the cougars and bears away from livestock/houses. I have a pitbull/rotty cross, and a morrema (I know that is spelt wrong but I am too lazy to look) both are in the country at my parents farm.

Your an idiot

If you run over my small dog or big dog you'll experience the same pain you gave them doubled.

Dogs just want to chase you. If you slow done there's no chase they'll stop because the fun is over.

+1 for throwing it off by accelerating and slowing down, but be careful sometimes they get caught off guard and find their way dangerously near your rear tire. this scares the bejeezus out of me the few times i've been chased. and u don't need to boot it in the head, just give them a 'love tap' by sticking your leg out and letting them 'run into it'. there's usually kids on the street when i ride and see any dogs wanting to play/chase and i don't want to horrify them by letting them see a biker boot their beloved pet in the head. besides i wouldn't be very pleasant seeing someone do that to my dog either.
