Duffy Loop Top 5

1464 Views 19 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  K-rod
I vaguely recall that a long, long time ago there was an unofficial "Top 5" listing of BCSB riders doing the Duffy Loop in what can be best described as a "highly spirited manner". Those five unofficially did that loop in the shortest amount of time .... allegedly. This was back in the heydays of this site. Recently, I ran into a fellow who mentioned he may or may not have been in that Top 5.

Now this would be an unsanctioned and irresponsible group of BCSB'ers which, truth be told, was approximately 98% of us back then.

I've searched for any mention of this select group of recidivists but have not found a mention.

Since pretty well all of us left here are relics from the old days, anyone else recall this group?

what gets defined as the Duffey Loop, Sikorsky? I presume anyplace in the lower mainland thru Pemberton Lillooet Lytton Hope and back to start? in either direction?

PS there is another little 'standard' in the area: "Bridge to Bridge" ( as reference to the Nurburgring ), meaning Fraser bridge in Lillooet to Bonaparte River bridge at hwy 97, north of Cache Creek. 75kms. objective is under 37 1/2 minutes. I know of times under that. I also know of a person succumbing to an impound... ( not me! ) all in good fun! ( PS: not sure if the road repair just north of Fountain Flats is now finished, but if not, it'd be VERY difficult to meet the mark...)

one would have to plead our southern brethren's "fifth", if one was, in fact, a part of that group
I’m quite surprised Sikorsky, that a “former and/or current law enforcement person” would undertake such a conversation on speed/time comparisons on streets and highways in BC.
But I find it entertaining so am very interested also.

yah, me too. in an unoffical capacity, undoubtedly... :D

(PS I've ridden with a couple LEOs (3, actually), and their pace on 'spirited' rides was not noticably different than ordinary citizens. gotta say, mostly that was stateside, not on home turf...)
In Gomer Pyle's best voice: shame shame shame ...

Think whatever you want, I really could not care less.

For the uninformed, motor vehicle act violations have a statute of limitations of 12 months from the date of the offence. So me asking about a mythical Top 5 from almost twenty years ago would have no implications for those people today.

Golly, sensitive!! I thought moving to the Kootenays escaping ‘the big smoke’ would have mellowed the soul. Must be the 7 months winters over there.
I may have a vague recollection of the Sunday crew...
Also, times have changed dramatically.
We're talking about an age when the S2S was the old 99 and only one way each way undivided, so there were no passing restrictions on the stretch along the Coast.

A lot of the pacing in those days was tied to smoke breaks...

A major part of what has changed is that: (a) the are lots of dash-cams in cars now, to record one's shenanigans; (b) there is cell phone service almost everywhere, so somebody who is pissed off can phone in a 'live' complaint; and ( c) there is more traffic almost everywhere. On the other hand, we're all older now, so maybe not quite so 'enthusiastic'?

The S2S has become much too crowded for fun, a total PITA to navigate to and from the north shore with the permanent rush hour traffic of the 2 bridges. And unless you plan on doing the entire Duffy loop, you’ve got to strategically plan a return before the weekend exodus back south out of Whistler, or be stuck bumper to bumper from Lions Bay to West Van. And the guaranteed vehicle accident Sunday afternoon southbound.

I'll have to ask Kim, Fernie or Nick about this legend one of them has to know something.
OMG - this place is still...

Spasming.

Or perhaps that word is too energetic ?

Har !

I know a guy - does the Duffey (small) Loop in just over...

5 hours

Weekdays FTW !

Not the Duffey, but riding the 99 from Cache Creek to Lillooet yesterday and only having to pass 2 cars, and then the 12 from Lillooet to Lytton and now having to pass a single vehicle, was a pretty fantastic day.
A nice mellow 667 km ride to start the season.

Hey RubHerDown - I bought a really nice '06 CBR1000-rr with just over 30k kms a couple seasons ago. She now has 39k on it, and I'm just finishing doing my plugs, air filter, and installing a Healtech Easy q/Shifter. Should be buttoned up and back on the road in a week or so (what a job it is, getting to the plugs in that model!!). My buddy Andy (owns a Bandit) told me that you had wracked up 160k kms on yours, before she packed it in. If I may be so bold as to ask: Did you own yours from new; and can you remember how many kms it had on it, before needing any valves shims adjusted ...

Hi Sikorsky, I'm the latest and the last custodian of one of your previous bikes, the honda cb350F lol. love the little bike and I have learnt a lot about it reading your post. My profile level prevents me from contacting u directly so here I am replying to your last post as the last resource.

Howdy,

My 08 had 174,000 km on it when I hit the
deer - and it still ran like a top and I was able
to ride it home after the hit

With all the km, there was a bit of smoke when
you twisted it, but nothing outrageous

My present 14 has 98,000 km on it

The 08 from new, the 14, I got with 10,000 km

Only thing that ever interrupted a ride on either
of them was one flat tire and one broken shifter
link, both I repaired roadside

Otherwise they never once failed to start,
run and rip

You can tell when the valves need adjusting
from the sound just off idle at low speed

As long as the air filter is clean, if you start hearing
a kind of burbling/loping exhaust note at low rpm
and very low speeds when you get off the throttle,
is time to check them

The 08, I adjusted valves three times, the 14 once at
around 75,000 km
