Looks like his rear wheel slid out a tiiiiny bit, but once it gripped it bit hard and the weight transfer threw him over. Could have been wayyyyyyy worse

It looks like a relatively tame high-side compared to some I've seen on MotoGP etc. highlights where the rider is 8' in the air. And yet could easily have been a fatality.
Padding on the tree looks like it would effectively reduce damage to the tree and that's about it.
It is so enlightening when a group of under achieving and overly critical street riders attempt to deconstruct an incident like this. I am quite sure that the majority of riders here could have more than caught that slip.
