Found pics on another forum, guy came outside when his neighbor knocked and said his bike was on fire. Caught fire one hour after he parked it.

Don't think it was a manufacture defect, someone might have torched her even.

Apparently it was an electrical fire as the fire department was called in twice to put it out AND they got shocked twice touching the bike ;-) This was originally posted by someone on Kawiforums.

they got shocked cuz the harness would've been shorted out. doubt it was the cause.

That makes no sense at all. An electrical problem may have started the fire but other than the spark coils therei's NOTHING on a bike that would cause a shock to anyone touching it.

It's very odd that it's the rear end that burned. Either the gas tank leaked and it ran downhill to the rear wheel or else he had something in the tail section that set it off. If it was one of those darned undertail exhausts that sprung a leak and set the plastic on fire that would be another possible cause but I see that this is a Gixxer with the belly can so that can't be it.

I'm guessing gas tank leak onto hot belly can causing burning gas that ran "downhill" to the rear section to take out the tire and up the tail section.

The phenomenen is known as Spontaneous GSXR Combustion (SGSXRC). I saw it happen to another Gixxer last weekend. Spontaneous combustion also occurs with humans, with no known cause and without any accelerants.

Should be covered under warranty.
