I woke up this morning (Feb 1 2006) and looked out the window and saw sunlight and blue sky. I ran to my computer and look up the weather for the day and even though i saw 80% chance of rain in the afternoon, I still looked outside and saw sunshine.

I called my girlfriend's office in surrey and asked if she would be available for lunch and when she said yes, I was off to the insurance company for a days worth of riding insurance.

$25 bucks later I was slipping the battery into the bike and connecting the leads. I was trying on the new jacket and helmet that I got at christmas (actually, I had tried them on a hundred times the past month, while sitting on the couch) and turned the key to let the 600cc engine warmup. Started right away (maybe the feul stabolizer really did help?). After a few minutes of idling, I was on my way.

Downtown to jericho beach and aound the UBC campus to the Arthur lang bride and then into richmond. I made my way to the alex fraser bridge and into surrey. It was cold, but bright and sunny.

I had lunch with the girl and as we walked out of the restaurant...the rain started. argh. I slipped on my rain pants (lucky thing i brought them) and headed back to vancouver.

The ride back wasn't that bad. My new JR Meteor worked great and kept me completely dry and warm. My new Scorpion helmet was awesome and didn't fog up once. the JR gloves were water proof so my hands were cold and wet and my boots were much better. All-in-all, however, it was still an awesome ride.

Some may say I'm stupid or crazy for spending $25 for insurance for 4 hours of riding, especially in the rain. I don't care. I had a great time and it certainly helped scratch the riding itch I've been having the past month.

Anyway, just wanted to share that little story. Now, I'm off to have a hot shower and warm up.

$25 divided by 4 hours = $6.25 of 1st person entertainment.
Good on ya! Some of the most cost effective 'hobbying' you can by!

i'm not so sure that anyone from here will tell you that you're stupid or crazy for spending $25 for 4hrs of riding...i know EXACTLY how you felt and i'm sure others here do as well! i use to winterize my bike, but there would be enough sunny days even during winter to warrant year-round insurance. here's to more sunny days! :)

I've been biking (bicycling) every day this month, rain doesn't really bother me anymore.
We'll see if this mentality transfers over to the motorbike when I insure (no waterproof moto gear yet).

I ride most days to work on the bicycle as well and no, it does NOT get any better. I save the motorcycle for the sunny days and bicycle in the rain. And I actually don't mind the bicycle riding since you're working and keeping warm thanks to the pedalling. On a bike the viz through the visor just gets annoying and if you're not dressed for it and it's a long ride it can get cold and miserable.

Vis was not too bad. But I won't be riding in the rain again until i get water proof gloves and boots. Frozen numb hands suck.

But I had a blast. Can't wait for warmer weather! :coffee

Ah yes, I got caught in the rain a few times after work in Oct/Nov.
You're right, the vision through the visor really sucks, that's the worst part for me.
