those that dont know:

Che Guevera, leader of several Latin American socialist movements, most notably Cuba's revolution. He supervised, and probably participated in, the execution of "enemies of the people." Eventually pissed off Castro (think Trotsky and Stalin) and ended up in some South American shithole, where he finally got the execution he deserved.
Fairly neutral wikipedia article.

Most of the morons who wear the shirts don't know shit about him.

YES! Lets all wear shirts with an image of an "anti-capitallist socialist pinko commie"... same shirts that are sold at stores and smart "capitallist pigs" are laughing their asses off at those poli-sci and arts students wearing them :D. Did i mention they also make craploads of money selling those shirts? Oh the irony, feel the burn :D

As opposed to you, the uber czar of all things Che.... At least you got one thing right: his name. Well, half a point for the execution. The attempted Stalin/Trotsky simile is (and I'm being kind here) strained.

In other forums there are the same self-stylized history buffs who wail at the prevalance of modern history's most recognizable photograph. Dude, get over yourself. There are lots of people proudly sporting the Union Jack, but for others it's the symbol of stunning brutality.

You see him as some socialist icon, which seems an intolerable concept for you. Very open minded. If you hate all that Che stands for, I take it that you're a big fan of operation Condor then? Nothing like tossing civilians out of planes into the jungle. At least they didn't think that health care and education should be available to all citizens.

The kind of skills you need to win a revolution rarely translate well into running a government (Castro and Mao are two exceptions). Che was too zealous, probably too bitter at the extreme injustices in South America, and by all accounts Castro thought so too, which is why he wanted him out of Cuba.

I don't own a Che shirt, but now I'm thinking of it....

ps my ex-girlfriend's uncle was murdered by nazi f*cks (in Uruguay gov't) who had the same sort of blanket contempt for political ideologies that weren't their own as you do.

that's about the dumbest thing i've ever heard you say. his life can't be summed up in one paragraph and if more people had half the brains he did the world might be a better place. not saying communism is the way to go(cuz human nature dictates that true communism will never work) but but at least he fought for the people and saved a few countries from being totally owned by "whitey". i've got a really good autobiography if you wanna school yourself.

Interesting note and obligatory motorcycle content: The recent movie The Motorcycle Diaries was about Che Guevera's earlier, pre-revolutionary years. Like him or not, we all here have a little bit in common with him at least. :p

Hey, I warned the bastard about drinking all my Mojitos and that replacing my cigars with the novelty exploding kind was funny the first time but he just didn't get it.

Good pict.

He started off as the poor, idealistic doctor, looking to unify South America but ended as a murderer and tyrant. He was a dirtbag, as was Castro (present company excluded), as were many of the worlds leaders. Hell, everyone from Africa or the Middle east has more skeletons in their closet.

What I think is funny is these "rebels" identify themselves because they wear the same clothes that those other "rebels" wear. It the same thing as bozo's who wear confederate flags or OCC chopper hoodies. Guess what, theres a big sale of anarchist t-shirts at WalMart.

And that's the dumbest thing I've heard you say. If people had double your brains they'd still only have half a brain.

If a murderer kills a murderer is he a saint? No.

He wasn't the saint people portray him to be, but in his mind he had noble intentions, not evil ones.

Some say the British gave the world a common language. Some say it killed their mother, brother, father etc. It's all about perception. I for one am pretty tired of people applying today's values on yesterday's people. This skews history.

you forgot North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.
..I'm assuming you're talking about politicians and country leaders?

Che is a good example that despite of what Stalin used to say, simply 'offing' someone doesn't always make them 'go away'

J.Stalin quote:
“Death solves all problems - no man, no problem.”

People can stand up for what they want, but when you see some kid wearing a shirt (be it Guevara, Malcom X, Confederate flag, etc.) who likely has no clue what that person/symbol actually stood for, it pisses me off to no end.

When Trotsky lived in the USA (New York?), he refused to tip at restaurants. To him, paying gratuities was a condescending capitalist act, and an affront to the dignity of working persons everywhere. He usually received shitty service.

Try that next time you go to a restaurant. :laughing

Maybe cam did not sum up Che's life all that accurately, or even fairly, after all he was a communist and it is still something to hate these days.

But, he does have a point. It is ridiculous for a pot smoking, upper middle class, living in suburbia, driving to university everyday students, to be wearing the symbol of communist revolution.

Shh, the grown ups are talking. Maybe you should go read up on Che's secret police. maybe ya know talk to a few people that had there parents taken away from them because they were 'enemys of the people'.

I cant believe all of you idiots. Che was no better then hitler. hitler had some good ideas, just the mindless slaughter of everyone who didnt fall into that catagory is where it all falls apart for me. but we all know Heinrich Himmler was the real brains behind the slaughter of the lambs.

It was accurate. Communists should be hated. As should slow-assed Harley riders that refuse to wave you by when you are approaching a set of 2nd gear twisties. Communist Harley riders suck ass.
