We see alot of threads here about members having their bikes stolen even in locked parkades with different security mechanisums. I am a Doctor and I work at SPH and VGH, there are nights when Iam on call so i stay there over night. So do you guys think that I am taking a large risk of having my bike stolen when parking it at the hospital parkade over night or even in the day time? Is parking anywhere in the downtown vancouver area pretty much risky?

thanks

I work at VGH too and you can park your bike in the free motorcycle parking area. It is reasonably visible (ie high pedestrian traffic) and is right on busy W12th ave. If you really are concerned, you can always chain it up to the barriers that are there. Alternatively if you work overnight in Emerg you can park it around there. The VGH emerg entrance is high traffic overnight.

I'm the yellow GS500 parked there...:)

But yes, I would say it is high risk.

Don't they teach you anything in Medical School now. GO over to the guys in building maintenace with a box of donuts and talk to the head of maintenance about your "problem" in having a safe place to park your bike.

I am sure there is a perfect spot that is well lit and in a public place that they will let you park in.

If that doesn't work go see where EHS parks and look for a corner near the ambulances same deal with the donuts

At least at St. Paul's they have a manned security booth, park it near there.

Is the SPH parking booth manned 24 hours? The VGH one is not. I think if you are oncall overnight, park near the ambulances on 10th ave like someone said earlier. I think that is the safest bet. I went for my first night ride ever tonight so I doubt I will ever have to keep my bike there overnight !

Yep, I'll keep an eye out for a shiny new Yamaha!

Unless you park it right next to the security guard booth, I would say it's high risk, and therefore, not worth the risk.
