My information is that laser jammers are legal in BC as radar detectors and they are sold in many shops like Futureshop, Ralph;s Radio etc. There is nothing prohibiting in the motor vehicle act of BC. I friend of mine was pulled over after the officer could not read his speed (as it was jammed) and seized his radar detector and gave him a ticket for $287 under motor vehicle act 135-1. ( Which was wrong. That section is for obstruction of photo cameras ) Then he sent a complaint mail to RCMP and he received a call back telling him that he is right the officer should not take his radar detector and the section 135-1 was also wrong and that they would cancel the ticket BUT he claimed that using a laser jammer is a violation of the criminal code of Canada section 129. ( Obstructing an officer while performing his duties. Like resisting arrest, etc ) Does anybody know any case or info about using the jammers in BC ??? Thanks

^ OP, Just in case you're too lazy, he means it's been discussed before and yes it is a violation to use a laser jammer for the reason you stated :)

your "friend" should have been counting his blessings with a MVA violation ticket instead of a criminal act violation...

Yeah, the officer was wrong as it is not an MVA offence. But, as you note, it is a more serious criminal code charge which can actually lead to you being arrested, and released with paper work advising you that you have to show up for a court date. With that in mind, the officer could legally seize it as evidence to support his obstruction charge against you. But, in your case you are okay because the officer made a mistake. Lucky day :)

The above is the reason I didn't buy a jammer.

Obstruction of revenue collection is more like it.

S2S is full of laser. However, that could be the rail way, other detectors, speed signs, highway signs. Agreed, the KA sends a note of fear.

Nope, this was genuine laser. Escort 9500 displayed "Laser", and I saw the cop hiding on the opposite side hiding in an on-ramp, standing next to his cruiser. I imagine he would have radioed ahead had he tagged someone, unless of course he's like Batman and can jump in, pin the throttle, and run down a speeder.

I've had laser on HWY 3, between Princeton and Keremeos. Only a flashing headlight saved me, as the detector is mostly useless on laser.

Laser doesn't throw false alarms. If your detector shows laser, start looking for an IMMEDIATE exit off whatever road you're on, or thinking of an excuse to explain why you're doing the stupid shit you're inevitably doing.

False alarms only show up as X and K band (both of which I've turned off). K band is still sometimes used in the States, though.

Laser between Hope and Princeton - got lucky as I was stuck behind a cager :)

Keep your speed down on long downhills and long straights.

K band is still used everywhere in Vancouver and all over BC,not to mention all over the US.
Turning k band off is just nuts.

I can believe it being used in some small hick town in a remote part of BC, but I've never seen a cop use K band in the lower mainland.
I have seen it used by VPD in Vancouver and RCMP in Maple Ridge on the #7 and RCMP on the #1 past Hope.
I would guess the ka band units outnumber the k band units but from what I have seen not by much.
Also most of the speed signs now are k band ( they used to mostly be x band).
It is good to know sometimes when approaching a speed sign as they are sometimes manned by speed watch volunteers or even police sitting with laser guns at the same time.
I have seen this at Lions bay.
The k band sign gave me plenty of warning so that when I came around the corner the cop gave me a thumbs up.

For the amount of Laser on the road its the least of your worries...Ka band is killer and is everywhere

5 years with a radar detector have yet to hit a laser....knock on WOOD
The last two speeding tickets I got where a device was used to measure my speed were both laser. That has been over a period of about four years though.
