How do you treat your Leathers?

Leathers, Use them Rain or Shine?

I just got my leathers (2 pc Dainese, Mako) and of course I asked my buddy if it could be worn in rain.

He told me that he wore his rain or shine and leathers are meant to be worn all season. He has done so with his and after a few seasons he would either sell them or toss them.

Now given the safety of leathers, I don't mind wearing mine in the rain either as I plan to get some good use out of them but the question is this the worse way you can treat your leathers? or is this what everyone does?

Yes, I do plan on putting on some leather cleaner and treatment to make it water resilient.

Lets hear what you do with your leathers for road riding...

Leathers suck in the rain. Unless you are at the track, it is better to use some sort of textile gear when it rains.

In fact leathers just plain suck. You are either hot or cold in them. If it wasn't for the fear of damaging my delicately soft skin I would not wear them.
leathers rain or shine. If I've prepared in advance and brought my rain gear I'll throw them on over the leathers.
I changed my mind after riding in the rain today. My textile rain gear is great out in the rain, where-as I can imagine being soaked through with the leathers making me cold and miserable.

However, I would now entertain the thought of throwing rain wear on top to keep it from being laden with water, but that would mean multiple layers again rather then simply slipping on gear that was meant for rain.

Perhaps someday.... I may try it to see how miserable I get with wet leathers (a hot summer, but rainy day), but not today...
Anyone who rides regularly in the rain with full leathers is an idiot, IMHO. While you're dropping at least $600 on a set of gear, why not spend another $90 and get something to protect your investment?
Leather is a special material that requires a specific treatment regimen to keep it in prime condition. Do some research into the material, and after a short time reading, I'm positive you'll feel the urge to protect your leathers from the elements a bit more.

Dropped $1400 on Dainese and I don't have the heart to let it run through cold water on its debut.... I'll ride with it on track in rain, but any other time I'll slip on some shell rain gear.

Plus the weight of it would probably make you feel miserable....
I've ridden in mine in the rain before. I don't like to do that though as they're fully vented in the front (lots of perforation holes). The only way i stayed comfortable on the single "rain ride" with them was due to the fact i had a heated vest. I would have been freezing otherwise. Textile kit in the rain / bad weather.
nothing like the feel of cold and wet leather gear against you. Pack the rain gear when in doubt with the weather.
+1

Leathers rain or shine. Rain issues? Wear rain-gear over them if you're concerned about the wet. Leathers worn year-round through all weather will come to fit you like a glove. For the nay-sayers: 'Breaking in your leathers' means more than owning them long enough to crease properly at your crotch. ;)

I've ducttaped a garbage bag around my gear once
worked out pretty ok
leathers go on anytime i'm hitting the highway for a ride. if i'm just bombing around town its the leather jacket, gloves, boots, and cas pants. can't wait for my new suit!!

same as this one but black instead of white.

nice leathers :rockon

yeah, I've been pretty happy with my leathers since I got the black ones too.
What a retarded thread......rain gear. What the hell else would you wear it over?? Your shorts and flip flops?

I go for the two peice textiles in the winter. Body armour under it. I've crashed in 3 set's of textiles, they are junk after a little slide (unlike leathers).

I don't commute in leathers/rain gear. It's a waste of time for me....I'd spend 20min getting geared up and another 20 getting out of the shit at work. It's a 5 min ride. Take the truck and drink my coffee thank you very much.
What a retarded thread....
... that's 3 1/2 years old... Ya should have left it sleeping.

Synthetic rain gear here I come!!! As great as dye's leeching out of 30+ yr old leathers is.........Ya no thanks. I'd like to see that gear last another 20 years.

Wooooo grave diggin of threads!
yeah... and having purple dye colour your hands blue... completely blue is not my idea of fun either.

PS
teknik sucks.
1 full year out of them and the palm on the left hand is already worn through.
