Oh, THAT'S why the road was closed!

:laughing Well, just found out first hand that highsides aren't fun!!

Well, not really a highside. I was cutting through a recently closed road by my place that i take everyday as a bit of a shortcut. There's speedhumps all along this road that were used to deter speeding when it was open, and now that its closed i use it as a short adrenaline rush and homemade set of whoops and jumps before i come home. So i was burning along like i always do, havent ridden the road since the storm. It figures, but there's one dead streetlight on the whole street, and a large tree decided to fall over the road at that exact spot. I didn't see it until late, wondering in my head why i couldn't see the next speedhump, then i realized oh crap there's a 6" diameter tree in my way! i got on the brakes as hard as i could, was probably doing 80~90 at the time, but hit all the dead crap that had blown into the street and came out of it with the front wheek in a skid. Had the sense to stand up and let go of the bars at the last second and hit the tree, and did a slow cartwheel in the air landing on my back and left forearm. No real injuries to me... maybe broke a finger (this is taking forever to type!) and think my knees hit the bars on the way over, and lucky i ride an enduro because the bike is ok but will need new bars and mirrors and well, probably more but i didnt check too thoroughly:) rode it home though. Besty part is that i hit the tree with enough force to blow it into three pieces! Nailed it in the centre which exploded the centre section outwards... should be some interesting pics in the morning when its light outside.

Sooo, moral of the story is accidents happen precisely 2 blocks from your house, don't swerve around road closure signs, and mother nature will kick your ass just because it feels like it.

What dangers lurk in the closed, darkened street?
The PitScar knows.
Ouch. Yeah, could have been a LOT worse. Good on ya to ride away from that!

May as well follow up with my promise for pics...

Bike in Question:

My view of it approaching the tree (notice the lack of streetlight):

Skid mark from hitting random crap in the road:

Fair sized...

And heavy too:

Screw you mother nature!

They closed the road for that? One person could have dragged the tree off to the ditch and been done with it.

No, the road has been shut for weeks - since no one travels it anymore and its blocked off they dont have to clean up after the storm there
Glad you're ok. It's about time somebody taught a tree who's boss.
I know where you live you silly goose.

Thought that road looked familiar.

I reside in good ol FH myself.

Why did they close that road anyway? Because of the new onramp system?

Glad you're okay and that you kicked that trees ass. :thumbup
That blue chord for your work pass looks exactly like mine. Do u work for MIG?
Ha, actually that's my buddy Mike. My hand is all busted and I couldnt move the tree at all with one arm, plus the guy is a 6'4" beast anyway. I'm behind the camera. And no he doesnt work for MIG

No, wasn't me, this was the first time I had ridden in a week. There's at least one other white/purple DR running around Surrey though so must have been him.

If you see someone jumping curbs in the parking lot there though, most likely me :)
Yikes man. Glad to hear you're ok.
I can see why Husqvarna got into dirtbikes once they mastered chain-saws. :happysq

Glad you're alright. :thumbup

If that's the road I'm thinking of, it's used all the time in the morning rush hour(s). 154th Street?

;D
LOL, should have treated the tree like a speedbump and jumped it.:laughing
Glad to hear that there weren't any serious injuries.

You win THE PRIZE. Actually yes it used to be used in the morning rush pretty hard, but they're totally redoing the area and closed that strip down. Now its all medians everywhere to stop the crazy cages from driving the wrong way down the street to save 30 seconds in their commute, and that road has been shut to cut down on the psychos who blast up there at 100kmh going the wrong way too.
