Pacific Riding School and ICBC Class 6 license Automatic or Manual?

2517 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  doser
I heard that some countries have separate motorcycle licenses for Automatic and Manual. Does class 6 have this too? I went on ICBC website but there's nothing about whether Class 6 is automatic or manual. Then can I bring an automatic motorcycle to take the class 6 test?

Also, does Pacific Riding School teach all by manual motorcycles or some manual and some automatic? I'm going to take a course there but I have no experience in driving manual so just want to make sure.

Thanks

Are there any automatic motorcycles on the market in Canada?

To answer your question, yes you can take your class 6 on a scooter, but don't bother unless it's over 200cc.
Well my question is not that can class 6 license drive automatic motorcycles, my question is whether there are two separate license one for automatic and one for manual. If you take the manual test you can drive both manual and automatic motorcycles, if you take automatic test you can only drive automatic motorcycles.

Because if I am planning to move to another country that has a system above, what's my class 6 license equivalent to? The manual one or automatic? But that's not the big problem, the big problem is if one took the class 6 test with automatic motorcycle and he/she has no experience in manual but went to another country and he/she is eligible to drive manual then wouldn't that be risky?

But on a personal level I don't really care about the system because I don't have the power to change it anyway. The thing I most concern is does Pacific Riding School teach manual but allow students to take the road test with automatic motorcycles? Or is it mandatory that you have to learn manual and do the test with manual? Cause doing the test with automatic would be a lot easier than manual but I also want to learn driving manual for the sake of convincing myself as someone that's really eligible to drive a manual when I'm going to another country.

No, there is no difference in this country.
Pacific Riding School only teaches on standard (maunal) transmission motorcycles. (Also all are over 200ccs and 2 wheels/no trikes, sidecars or Spyders etc.). Using these and doing your final ICBC Road Test on them may qualify you for a full, unrestricted Class 6 license.

If you do your final ICBC Road Test on an automatic (say, your own bike), then you will still have a class 6 but with a restriction (endorsement) limiting you to only riding automatic transmission motorcycles.
Also, as mentioned above, if you did your final ICBC Road Test on a motorcycle with equal or less than 200ccs then you will have a class 6 but with a restriction (endorsement) limiting you to 'No Passengers'.
^ Thanks for the insight, I wasn't aware of the automatic restriction, only the no passenger one for under 200CCs.
I didn't know there were "automatic" motorcycles.

You might find this link useful on the different licence types in B.C.

Of interest to you is the Class 6 or 8 section, and the Limited-speed motorcycles section.

I still don't see the automatic distinction under any section...

That's because there is no distinction. =) You're better off learning manual - it will only help you in the future.
I encourage you to learn to shift gears, use a clutch, and learn to "really" ride a motorcycle. IMO

It's not for me...but Wayne said that like it was fact, but I can't find any evidence of it.
Hi to everyone.
I recently moved to Canada and already got the full driving license for cars.
I'm going to buy honda nc750x dct 2023.
Transmission: Six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission with four automatic shift modes and manual mode.
Even in automatic mode anyway manual transmission works and you are able to use clutch up/down.

I'm planning to pass test in automatic mode and use clutch sometimes too.
But even if I will get restrictions to automatic transmission anyway my motorcycle will have manual and I will use it.

I'm totally confused, am I going to get the license for automatic transmission or manual transmission by passing road test on it?

During the test even if I will be in automatic transmission mode I will be able to use clutch, and how it counts in BC?
