R6 fender cleaning

Any of you local guys clean up your rear fender? I'd like to do it this season but I don't want to just competlely remove it and lose my license plate light. I've seen one guy do a really nice install, but it cost him a fortune; maybe I don't have a choice?

The standard slash with the dremmel tool won't work on mine I'm afraid.. :(

Why won't the Dremel thingy work? If you remove the license plate light, you can use the tail-light to illuminate the plate. I did that on my '00 VFR. After relocating the plate I cut the bottom of the light out and replaced it with clear plastic, the light from the tail was sufficient to see the plate. If you want to stop in, we can have a look at it, and hash out the best fix. No need to spend $$$ on a kit, although the kits do look good.
I'm not cutting into my LED tail lights. ;)

I'm going to change the oil on the bike this weekend, and then I'll take a closer look at what I have to work with.. the bike is in my father in-law's garage right now.
I'd forgotten about the LED's. I don't blame you, I wouldn't touch them either. I wish Kawie would use them...maybe next year.
i might be working on a solution friday so i'll let you know if i come up with something
If I am not mistaken, doesn't the R6 fender remove at the turn of a screw ? i thought I remembered you telling me about that.:confused

i think that only with the new R1's. Sorry Adam, I haven't looked at the back of an 2k1 R6 recently so I'm no help.

i does come off by taking off 4 screws, we're just trying to get rid of that whole black fender to give it a race look...

Now that is sweet looking.:cool
Dat pretty sweet :eek
Well, I attempted to take my tail light assembly off last night.. quick release my ass. Maybe it was a little dark, and maybe I had a lack of tools, but I couldn't get that bad boy off...

So dumb question: You put a wrench around the button nut while unscrewing the hex screw in the trunk right?

Someone? :laughing <-- nervously..
adam, THERE IS NO NUT, just unscrew the allen head screws like any other screw....BTW they are hard to undo the first time

Cool, keep me posted. Can you use them with the red lenses?
Ok people, issues:

First of all I don't see the quick release tabs for the lights. It was my impression that these came off quickly for race days.. I'm a little lost and don't want to go digging to far.

Anyhow, some pics:

This is the underside (yes it's dirty), there are 4 bolts, and a hole right in the middle of the four of them that the wires go through, you'll see in the next picture that you don't see the wires come through on the other side.
The 'glove box'. Notice no easy access wires??!!! :confused
My only thought is that maybe it isn't a real 'quick disconnect', because I see where it does run into, but that's a long way for me to snake the wire back if I want to put it back on..

man that's where i got stuck too:confused
Figured it out. There are 6 rivets on the underside of the tail. Just push in the center of them, and they'll come out real easy.

I also unscrewed most of the tail so I could have a look around in there. Man is our electrical compartment packed to the tits.
