Well I am curious what others think. These new rules??
Is it A) going to cause less speeding.
Or B) cause more people running from the cops. Resulting in as many or more deaths due to speed. The opposite of their goal.
Personally. I am expecting to see alot of news releases stating
"Man in vehicle attempts to evade police, causing accident, killing 3"

If someone kills themselves running from the police, I couldn't give two
squirts of piss about them.

If they kill an innocent person, then that really winds me up.

There are lots of folks on this forum who are runners. I've heard the
stories over and over.

I don't blame the runners, they're just running from the system. A corrupted system that sees profit over public safety.

But then they are endangering other road users .... you included.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over a runner smoking a rock cut, bridge abutment or fir tree at mach 9.

Yea it sucks but is it really so hard for us to just not do 40+ over the limit? There's some places where it could be tough (ie. Patullo Bridge into Surrey where doing 90 in a 50 zone isn't too hard) but maybe just be a bit more aware?

Whatever, it won't stop the "WAAAHHHH THEY TOOK MA BIEK!!" crowd anyway.

Well, I do. What kind of a fucking moron runs from the Police?
Anyway, I rarely do 40 over the limit and if I do, it sure as hell isn't in or near Vancouver. It is somewhere where there's very little chance there are cops around. Or other vehicles for that matter. Not counting passing that is.

It will be interesting to see how they deal with the Trans Canada. Everyone out there is driving 40 over or very close to. What can the cops do if everyone ignores them? Stop everyone on the freeway and give them a talking to. Ride the inside lane and use as many blockers as you can. There are a lot of them. :)

Nothing will change.

If the limit is 80 and everyone is doing 110kph... life will go on.

They aren't going to pull everyone over and take your cars away.

Same shit they always pull. First month or two will be warnings. They'll pull you over at 40kph over, say next time you lose your vehicle, tell you about the new law...Send you on your way with your $398 ticket and extra insurance premium. Radio broadcasts on Chum and two months later hopefully people get the message. I see no reason to speed in a car. Infact I'm one of those horrible people in the far right lane with cruise control doing exactly the limit or maybe 5kph over depending.

Stop fucking whining about this bullshit. Riding a bike doesn't entitle you to running 40kph over the posted limit. The cost of a trailer, gas, insurance for the trailer, and entry into a track day is still far less than the 2,000 you lose all in all getting lasered at 40kph over the limit.

I get it, it's taking the fun out of riding your sport bike on the street.

Ok, so I'm hearing a lot about these ICBC insurance premiums being added to your normal cost of insurance in the event you get an excessive speeding ticket. Are they doing this for a normal speeding ticket too? If I get caught at 15 over the limit, am I going to pay this extra fee for 3 years too? Or does this only affect the more severe tickets?

it goes by points. but an excessive automatically gets you the drivers premium every year. otherwise your 15 k/hr tickets will have to add up to 4 points or more till it effects you.

Only reason i started this is when i was suprised by the main reasoning of the new law is to lower deaths due to speed? there quote was somewhere around 160 deaths in bc per year due to excessive speed. my real question is are the numbers going to drop with this law?
Or are there going to be more runners and end up increasing the number.
Obviously running is not the thing to do. But for those who are skeptical about the idea which many are. This is just more reasoning to do so.

Im not bitching about the law. its true speeding kills. Im just curious if the master plan of saving lives will pull through?
