I just noticed tonight when the weight of the bike is off the kickstand that there's some sideways movement in it - ie. towards and away from the countershaft cover. Haven't checked the bolts etc (too dark - will do it tomorrow) - is this normal and i haven't noticed it before? It moves maybe an inch, but only when pressure is applied to it.

sounds like you have a faulty sidestand. i'd try and unload the bike in the buysell asap for a few grand less than it's actual value. actually come to think about it i could probably buy it off you and rebuild the sidestand.

It's normal with many side stands. The one on my Z was terrible right off the bat. I "rebuilt" it to make it tighter just because I can.... :D

werd werd. did the same to my one Gixxer cause it used to freak me out like it was about to fall over when i set it on the stand and it moved that inch. made it so it only moved a fraction and it was gold. my new Gixxer is aight. stand only moves amm or 2.

i'll give you $100 for your bike. it's falling apart. it starts with the kick stand and it keeps going till you sell it to someone who will buy it.
just check the bolt, tighten mine up a little when i got my bike and it never feels like it was loose. mine dosen't move side to side at all.
