Well just before the I did the oil change today I hooked up my battery and started the bike, full choke and had to press the started button a few times, it started but needed a few pushes of the started button, I had drained the carbs. and stuff so....

but as I was doing that I was hearing a tick tick sound everytime....after warming up the bike to 80 or so and revving it a bit I killed the engine and then restarted, again it wouldn't start I had to give it some gas, and the same tick tick sound was coming and a bit of white smoke from the exhaust, like someone puffing a cigar....

the bike idles fine at 1,100rpm revs fine, but I dunno, something tells me otherwise....

this is the first time I started the bike after changing the spark plugs....will start it agian tomorrow morning to see if I still have the same problem....

thanks....

well, I know if my bike is really cold, I mean cold like what we have been getting the past 2 days, and the bike hasn't been started in several days, it makes a few tick/knocking sound when I get it started upped, but it goes away once the bike is warmed....

I wouldn't worry about the little noises when she's warming up, Farhad. As long as it goes away, and more importantly as long as it's during this first couple of start ups it's probably nothing more than the engine getting back to it's day to day condition. It's been sitting for a while and bound to have contracted more so than if you'd shut her off for a day or so.

According to Motorcyclist, their longterm test ZX-6R "ticked" when started up too...then the ticking subsided when warm. They were curious so they queryed Kawasaki. The official response was it was the catylist in the catalytic converter in the pipe warming up. Apparently it "ticks" when cold.

There bike was a California model, so it could be different, but that is a possible answer.

no all the 2001+ ZX6Rs have the convertors in them...

Well I went down to the garage and fired up the bike first try no choke, great start no worres.....so I decided to warm it up...it's revving t 2-2.5k rpm and I notice my stem cell lights have turned on and have started blinking :D:D

then once it reaches 60 degrees I start revving it to 5 then eventually 9 k.....reach 9k and my dad's car parked in the garage (other side of garag with the garage door open) it's alarm goes off....lol, :D:D

Well I sat down, with my old toothbrush and some cardboard to cover the floor and part of the tire and first cleaned the chain with WD40, dried it with a soft cloth then brushed in some Chain wax.....

no all I got to do is get the turn signals in and upper fiaring on and adjust the chain and then insure the damn puppy....lol

Igot them at the bike show, it's these little thing you replace the cap of your tire valve with and basically upon sensingh motion there is a little green LED light that goes on.....gives a nice effect while riding.....they also sell them on www.tricktape.com and at A&B sound....

hey blitz, your bikes need to go over 5,000 rpm a bit more often, you really need to open that bike up....I have never heard any ticking sound coming from your bike, did it just start ?
