I want to buy a front stand and I'm looking for info on the pros and cons of a conventional stand that lifts the bike by the bottom of the fork tubes and a steering head stand that lifts it by the steering head tube.
What can I do with the one that I can't do with the other? I assume that a steering head stand allows me to change the fork tubes. Anything else?

A steering head stand also lets you set your fork sag fairly easily.

Steering head stand is more stable, and allows you to service the forks. Worth having IMO.
