Is a 2005 Suzuki RMZ 450 a good street motard.I found a good deal on a stock one and I want to convert it over.I asked a buddy of mine and he say's I'll be doing more mechanical work on it than riding it on the street.Just a question to any supermoto riders who would know more about this.

The only bummer about that set up is the four speed transmission. If you can run a 15/38 sprocket set up, it woulnd't be so bad. One other guy on here has one that he seems happy with. He may be the guy to speak to about it since he's also a mechanic at Modern Motorcycles on Commercial Dr.

I have my RM-Z on the street, and the 4 speed thing is kinda shitty. I use 14-36 as the tallest gearing that will fit. I havent done the maintenace right to the book, or i would be on my 4th or 5th piston already, but the bike doesnt seem to mind. I dont have a charging system, just charge up the batery evry now and then. I have a new son, so i dont ride very much, so what i use it for, its just fine. Send me a mesage if you have any other questions.

So from this I think we can safely say that any 4 speed motocross bike is not going to make the best motard. The same issue has come up time after time on other boards in connection with the YZ bikes as well.

I'm not sure since I don't really follow the history of all the MX bikes. All I know is that the idea of modifying the MX bikes over to 'tards or enduros comes up every so often on the sites I hang out at. In every case the number of gears or the gear spacing goes against the idea of using an MX bike for 'tarding or enduro'ing.

They'd probably work just fine if you have sets of sprockets to suit various conditions but the point was that the spacing of the final ratios between first to top are all too narrow on the MX bikes to run just one final sprocket ratio.

The true enduro bikes like the CRF###X, the WR### and similar all have wider ratio boxes and/or an extra gear to allow a wider range of speed out of the design.

Oh yeah, the WR and CRF-X definately make better street 'tards. No questions about that.

But I know a lot of guys build the YZs if they're only going to be racing their 'tard...so the extra gear would be really good for that. Because (I think) the YZ comes a little more tuned 'out of the box' compared to the WR - so it's probably a better base to start from, if you're not concerned about longevity.

But the RMZ on the other hand...

Just buy a Husky 510 $8800 and completely built for the track and street.
OK, OK! ! ! ! I WILL! ! ! ! !

Oh, wait.... I already did... :D

Bill raises a good point though. If you're not getting that RMZ for a give away price then buying the bike and then all the motard stuff can get expensive in a hurry.

The RMZ450 would probably make good motard track bike I found out on supermotojunkies.com but not street worthy.Yeah prices of motard stuff is expensive.
