If the weather is nice lets meet up for a big ride... Im talking strength in numbers here. Ride out maybe to Squamish, or to Harrison via lougheed hwy.

The more the merrier, as the most I have ever ridden with is 3 other bikes. I was thinking start around 11am (flexible) but no later than 1:30pm

EDIT : im actually interested in just the ride so if anyone wants to go anywhere thats cool. I just dont really want to ride into downtown though... stop and go traffic sucks

if you plan on doing the squamish run via sea to sky, go early in the morning cause it gets busy later in the day

Hi, Jonathan, my names Jared, I am new to this site and just bought a brand new Kawasaki ZX-6R. I am going through my break in period so my max speed is 80 km/h so if you don't mind staying at that speed I will ride with you on Sunday, I just can't hit the no. 1 though, sorry but anywhere else would be cool. Drop me a line or e-mail me at [email protected].

I should be up for a Sunday ride.. but I don't want to ride around Vancouver. I'd like to find a slightly larger stretch of road. ;)

I should be up for one too. I'm starting to hear conflicting reports regarding break in, some people are telling me not to baby it as long as they recommend for fear of glazing the cylinder heads (i believe that's what it was) by not putting it through its full rev range. hmmm I'm at around 500km now so I'm a little unsure how fast I should go ;). Oh and you should just be able to keep up at highway speeds. I know my r6 in top gear runs pretty close to 100 at the recommended rpm. Mind you thats the speed limit... maybe not how fast we'll be going :D

what I did on mine was follow the manual.... for my gixxer, I had to stay below 6000rpm for the first 600 kms, then stay under 10,500rpms for the next 400 kms up to 1000km, then redline after that. So what I did was after I hit 600kms, I rode my bike in the 6000-10000rpm range the majority of the time until I hit 1000kms, then I just rode it normally after the first service was performed.

It's funny, I started 'hearing' these reports as my break-in was going... basically I think I was just trying to justify the fact that I wanted to let her rip.

I'll tell ya though.. if you hold off just a little longer.. take it in for the first service.. and when you go pick it up.. hammer it down the East/West connector.. OH, the grin...

Mind you, I brought it above 5-6krpm's quite a few times.. but never for very long. I truely believe a lot in the fact that your rings need to set, and they don't do that if you just ride it like you stole it. But I'll coax you along just fine if we do end up going out on Sunday (damn sickness!!)

yeah I've had it over 5000 a few times too but just for short stretches, I think I'll be nice to it until the 1000 mark, not sure after that (the bloody r6 manual says to keep it under 6000 for the first 1600 km!) :D

well shit, i might not be able to go... we'll see

The girlfriend wants to have a outing with me that day and she already mentioned it to me before I posted, but then i forgot...

If I can make up some excuse such as "oh wel'll have dinner and a movie" then its cool and I can ride all day, but she sorta wants to go on a road trip sorta thing which means I'd be out all day.

If you are going to ride on sunday I would recommend harrison, we rode out there 2 weeks ago and it wasn't to bad. Problem with Squamish is that it is still abit to cool tempature wise, and if it is nice you will have to deal with all the skiers heading to Whistler, because they are getting a ton of new snow right now.

I would recommend against squamish too 'cause i live in west van and there's still some snow up here and more is expected for Saturday, which means by sunday, the roads past lions bay should have a lot of new salt, snow, and gravel on it, or just plain snow or ice!

When my buddy broke in his YZF1000 (the year before it became the R1) he did it by the book. Now it leaks oil because the valves did not seat properly and his mechanic (North Shore Sukuzi) told him he probably did not work the bike enough during the break in, then when it was broken in he starts riding his bike harder than the bike is used to.

I have no idea if any of it is true, but when I broke my last bike in, I did it different than my book. No super acceleration, and I would work each rpm range seperately and follow that by a cooling period. For instance, go for a rip to Squamish keeping the bike under 6k. Let it cool for an hour while eating lunch. Ride back keeping it under 8k, let cool. Go for another hour long ride, this time under 10k etc. This method seemed to work well for me. :)
