As a Noob, Im not too sure on how many KM's on a used bike is good or bad.

Im in the market for some 03 - 05 bikes. So whats too many KM's for how old the bike is. Is 5000kms on a 04 bad? How do i know if the bike was prop[erly broken in?

Need Help. Too dumb. Thanks. No Autographs Plz. :laughing

Mileage isn't as important as how the bike has been maintained. That said, you should be able to easily find examples of what you're looking for that have accumulated less than 5000km/yr. If you go with a bike with higher mileage, it would be a bonus to find one that doesn't have any major service coming due, has new tires, and new chain/sprockets.

If you find something that looks good cosmetically (when shopping for bikes that new, there should be examples that look nearly perfect), you should invest in an inspection by a competent mechanic--that'll cover the mechanical end of things.

I think this topic is been beaton to death over and over again. Km's are not important at all. The maintainance of a motorcycle is. There are countless numbers of members on here with bikes with 50, 60, 70,000 + km's and still run as new. mind you these are riders that know that changing the oil, and regular maintainince are crucial. modern sportbikes were designed to handle the abuse of hard redlining puishment riding at the race track.....and most bikes on here never see the track. a bike with 5000 k could have major problems with, depending on the owner but probably not. Do your homework, shop around, and take the bike for a mechanical check by a shop if your unsure. I alos think I would rather buy a bike with heigher milage that has been well taken care of, than a bike that has hardly been ridin. bikes that sit around un-used can have significant problems to.

my 2 cents

Your totally right. I think its up to my gut feeling and the owner of the bike
to show me regular maintenance papers. Its just hard, cause ive never bought a bike before and i dont know who to trust.

So give a rough estimate for a good amount of KM's to look for when shopping for the used bike i want (03 - 05)

You all have awesome advice. I couldnt ask for better help. Thanks all.

Oh yeah. What do you think of Kawi ninjas ? i looked at a 03 636 with 8000Kms.

the thing is SICKLY FAST!

My 03 GSXR750 has 16,700 kms on it...I've seen bikes that are less than a year old in rougher shape. It all depends on how it was cared for, was the maintenance done, etc...
