Hello

Im thinking about powder coating the wheels gold and the swingarm black on a black 600rr.

Is there a shop that can take apart a bike, unmount tires and powdercoat parts?

Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

you got er. pretty much any powdercoat place i've ever heard of will require that you take care of the removal of the arm and tires. there are motorcycle shops that will take care of it all for you. i'm sure Bill at 5th Gear would be happy to remove your arm, dismount your tires, send out your stuff to a powder coater he probably knows first hand and then re-assemble everything for you.

This may sound hackish as far as the rims go... but it seriously works!

I have both sets of rims on both my bikes painted gold with Motomaster near-match Gold paint (comes in the big spray cans). On the gixxer they've been painted for over a year, and have seen gas, brake dust, brake fluid, many hand-tire changes with tire-irons, and a good crash! The paint does not have a single chip, peel or major scratch!

On my f4i you can imagine the abuse they get... rims still look perfect! and I clean em with WD-40

Save yourself the $, Get em removed at 5th gear & then paint them yourself!

i've had rims powder coated at Millenium in Bby. $50 a wheel and the job is awsome. i've painted rims too and prefer the powder coating. lasts forever.

ya but i'm too poor ass to rip my bike apart and get the wheels, swing arm and frame coated, lol. as much as i would love too its prob not gonna happen for this season. we'll see how banged up it is at the end of the 07 season to see if its worthwhile to spend the bucks!

I wouldn't powder coat em. Polishing is better, there are plenty of people on this site that are real good at polishing rims. put the word out, and I'm sure you'll find someone to polish your rim.

Powdercoasting is good.. but it's not the be-all or end-all that some think.
A simple stupid spraycan job onna decently prepped wheel can and often does, last years. Also note that some restorers are now using spraycan epoxy appliance paints in preference to powdercoating, which normally adds significant thickness to the parts coated, making them a real PITA to reassemble... where precise fit matters.
Besides the Applliance paint is proving to be at least as durable as Powdercoat.
