Don't waste your money locally.

eBay!

I got my Escort Passport 8500 X50 for $325 CAD shipped and that included all the taxes and duties. I believe that's over $100 cheaper than buying local.

If you need help with buying on ebay. PM me, and I could help you out. When I bought mine, I got one for my uncle as well.

Cheers.

I went to Futureshop. I walked in the door. I bought my Escort 8500 for $450. I went outside. I installed it in my car. I drove away.

Sure I paid max retail but I had it within an hour of wanting it.

And I'm Jewish! I never pay retail!

yeah online looks to be the way to go, i was leaning towards the bel though. i think you can order direct from them.

i've notice that they come with a cig lighter power supply, how does a guy go about wiring to the bike? cut up the cord? wire to battery? is a fuse needed?
thx.

Most electronics are cheaper online man. I guess the guy I got it off of is a wholesaler or what not.

It's up to you. You can get it right away at futureshop for 450, or off the internet for over 100 bucks less. You do have to wait 2-3 weeks for it to arrive though..

The passport is awesome man. Do radar searches on this forum and on the internet. The two best detectors are the Valentine 1 and the Escort X50.

Don't go with Bel...

The escort comes with a cig adapter for use in your car. It uses a telephone style wire I believe and I just bought one of those at radio shack, ran it under my gas tank and hooked it up directly to my battery terminals. Just don't forget to turn off the detector when you're done or your battery will be dead in no time.

sorry man but anything on ebay i'm suspicious of. you can order the passport direct for 299 u.s. how did you get it through a middle man for less than retail when factoring in duty, tax, shipping etc?
not trying to rain on your parade just curious mang.

Sorry bud, Escort doesnt ship to Canada :laughing

Let me change your mind about eBay!! haha theres so many ebay skeptics. :p

Just because a manufacturer has that price on their website, doesn't mean a retailer can't discount it.

Take motorcycle gear for instance... A Shoei helmet might be 800 dollars retail on the shoei website, but an online retailer like baysiderperformance.com can get them for cheaper and pass on the discount to you.

What are you sketchy about? I just got 2 brand new X50's off ebay... 325 each CANADIAN, and they're brand new... work perfectly.

EDIT: Maybe escort does ship to Canada... their checkout system is messed at the moment. Even if they do, they're going to charge you at least 40 bucks for shipping... with tax and duty, you're going to run to at least 400 bucks canadian... it's your money. haha

but dude can't you install them so they're not visible? won't a cop give you shit if he sees them on your bike when pulling you over for something else.
i saw a gixxer 1000 from cali getting fixed at carter the other week. you couldnt even see anything on it. it had jammers in the front and back and a detector i guess under the shield in the speedometer area. and he had fast tags (hydraulically operated license plate flipper).

Radar detectors are perfectly legal in BC.

A cop cannot do anything about it.

Unless he caught you speeding, then he'll laugh at you for having a radar detector and still getting caught.

And in regards to mounting it, there are various stands that you can order online that screw into your stem or you can get some that bolt onto windscreen bolts etc.

450? Thats cheap. At bestbuy its like 675 for the X50. I got mine a year or so ago for cheap.

I havent mounted it on my bike yet though, what do you guys do about rain and bugs ect? And my windscreen is blacked out so will it work through that?

dark screens won't affect radar detection. I have mine mounted facing a smoked screen and it works just fine.

Mounting can be done as simply as heavy duty velcro to your gas tank or clutch master cylinder cover (for hydrolic clutches).

If'n it rains, you can use a plastic sandwich bag to cover the detector. But most likely you won't be tear assing on your bike in the rain anyhow. Just put that fucker in your pocket if it starts to come down.

And no, radar detectors are not illegal in BC. The only province in Canada where they're illegal is Ontario. I've had roadside chats about radar detectors with a few local rozzers. Most have been very curious about their efficiency. And to that I say that I've never gotten a speeding ticket ever in my car or on my bike while running the Escort.

ahh ok that makes sense. I was thinking more of instances where you ride head long into downpour like BC is so famous for.

My windscreen is more the smoked lol I would go so far as to say, opaque! You wouldn't see a flashlight through it. lol.

So is there a way of mounting it on my bars? Where would I go to get a mount for this bad boy, do I have to order it online?
