Could somebody who listens to the music when riding explain to me why please?

Is it possible that riding is so boring for you that you have an attention room to spare? I start suspecting that I have no talent for riding at all since after 40+ years on the bikes there is nothing more my mind can handle while riding:confused.

I don't ride with music but I imagine if you're stuck on some lovely straight slab like Hwy 1to Chillidump or the I5 it would definitely help the boredom.

I grew up with constant music; music for studying, sleep, driving. Walkman in the early 80's kept me company for long bus rides etc.

It helps me relax and I pay no attention to the actual music except that it keeps me mellow. It isn't on very loud and I can hear the traffic around me.

My attention is focus completely on the road and I can't tell you what I've been listening to....

Use the search button and read all the threads about music. Maybe you will have a better understanding then. Not everyone listens to music every minute they ride. I prefer to listen to music while I ride through the interior. 100 Decibels of wind noise gets boring. Music changes that.

I would love riding just the same (and did, way back in the day before they had mp3 players..) if I wasn't able to listen to music, but I enjoy it more when I do. Is it a little less safe? absolutely. but that's what riding is all about anyways, isn't it? degrees of safety?

do you wear a bright orange safety vest and never break the speedlimit when you ride? if your answer is no, then we're just discussing why your particular "level" of safety is different than mine, and well, there's room for all kinds in this world.

I think the advent of new technology like MP3 players and portable satellite radios and single purpose helmet speakers that actually work makes listening to music while riding more accessible to a lot of riders who otherwise shunned it for decades (like me and possibly like you if you gave it a chance).

That said, with my Xpro helmet speakers from Clearer Communications, I can successfully wear earplugs and listen to music at the same time and it actually sounds great while canceling out all the usual road noise.

I know a lot of dyed in the wool anti-music riders who've been turned after getting the right setup, myself included.

Next step is Bluetooth speakers. Gotta hate that wire.

Ever drone along I5 or 99 in California?
Geez, south of Redding, it's an exercise in staying awake.
Or how about I70, I80, I10 across the US?
You glance at the guages, survey the horizon, scan the rear view mirrors, watch the traffic you're gaining on, or which is gaining on you.......
Then the drone continues.

Sometimes, placed I want to be, are very long and boring stretches of highway away...and musis can be a lifesaver to keep my attention level up.
I won't go anywhere without my XM radio and CB.

(This from a guy who was 72, yes, I counted, 72 switches or buttons to fiddle with........don't laugh, Bill has more):laughing

I like to live on the edge. You don't begin to understand life untill you top out at 280 kmh over that crest when celine hits her high note in titanic. There are simply those that have, and those that have not.

tru dat. when i'm riding down a strait stretch of road or into an easy corner etc etc i listen to music, when concentration is needed, i switch it off in my mind. very easy to do. i think they call it multi tasking. not everyone can do it. i find myself singing in my helmet if i don't have music so may aswell have it. i can still hear my motor and things so it's all good for me. dancing at stop lights is fun too.
