Will motocross kill me?

I just broke in the first brand new motocross bike I have had in 25 years, My last brand new bike was a 81 YZ125G. Today I was running a 06CRF450R.

So I am a bit of a tech geek and took my heart rate monitor to check it out and see how it comperes to Cycling.

First two mellow twenty minute sessions beat all my cycling rates. Change the oil and start to give 'er for a 40 minute session. Stats were Max heart rate 188bpm, Minimum heart rate 154bpm (I started my watch after the first lap), Average 177, duration above 165 -39 minutes, duration below 165 -50 seconds. Better work my cardio training.

If I go by the rule of thumb of 220 - age= max heart rate, I am maxing out as if I was ten years younger.

Motocross, Fountain of Youth of Early Grave? Who cares.

Yehaaw!

I'm not motorcrossing but on one of the smallest Dual Sports.

I figured I had to get into the dirt before age becomes an issue.

Here's to blowin out the plaque in the artiries.

You only live once.
Motocross is the most physically demanding sport on the planet.

Even more then soccer. Don't believe me look it up.

As I found out at the first provincial race of the year, it will show you just how bad of shape you are in haha.

What class are you racing? I'm going from 250 Novice to 125 Novice
I simply enjoy the smaller bikes more
If the heart rate thing doesn't get you casing a double here or there sure will.... :D

Have fun and don't try to keep up to the young'uns..... :thumbup

Soccer = motocross ???????? that's like Ballet = Boxing . Motocross is demanding but the more you ride the more you learn how to make the bike do all the work.

Remember the bike is a only a machine. Control it don't fight it.
now ya know why i looked like i did after the 24 hr lol.damn awesome workout is what it is.
Tom you are way more fit than a lot of guys out there. But like Bill said, you need to ride smarter not harder. Jumby will get you up to speed quick. He's a nut case and has mega talent. Enjoy your new ride.

I hope to be out there soon if I can ever find a 81 YZ250 in fair shape. I'm a sucker for old bikes and would never buy anything new. The last time Jumby and I went out with the boys I used a XT 600. And yes I still kept up......
I am heading out to Train all day at Pemberton. Training by riding how good is that, 6-20 minute moto's, a whole lot of race gas, 1 oil change and a lot of Sweat. If any one wants to head up let me know, I usually go every weekend, and have room for 3 bikes. The track is very easy and well maintained, it's $20 for the day and as whole lot of fun.

I have been gettihg better at that and learned a lot during the 24hr. Still have a lot of old muscle memory to retrive from my hard drive but it is coming back. I was glad to have stayed on the track 40 minuted at least.

It will be good to see how the heart rate drops as I get more relaxed. Fear and anexiety probably playing a big role currently.

Have fun Jumny, I will be bowling with the kids today. I should wear my heart rate monitor for a set see how it compares.
Like I said, if you don't believe me look it up haha.

Good on ya for getting out and racing again, how's the maintenance on your 450 been?

I'm really on the edge about making the switch from 2 to 4
Kyle stick with the 2 for as long as you can. There way better bush bikes . All the top guys in X country around the world run 2 stroke. Lower center of gravity good power and light weight feeling. Plus the maintenance is about 1/5 th of a 4 stroke.
I totally agree. I know a few guys with 250 smokers and CRF450's. They all say the 250 is a better trail bike. They still seem to enjoy the 450 but it is more work to ride.

I have a KX250 and love it. Haven't tryed a 450 yet (only in motard trim) but I don't feel the need to either. The cost difference is my biggest reason.
i agree the 250 2 stroke is better for the tight bush stuff for sure.the 450 is great after you get used to it,the rekluse clutch saved my ass many a times. but the 450 is alot of work when yer tired and can bite ya when ya get brain fade:(
Rekluse???? You ride a cheater bike! :jk
Yes I agree, I can go faster in the bush on a 2 stroke,,but I like the torque of the 4stroke and it sounds pretty sweet on hills I find it better on the hills, but thats it. The one thing I do find is, I can go faster, and for a longer time on the MotoX track with my 4stroke than my 250. The cost of maint and repair is quite a bit more, but hey what can you do.

You can come with us and use the XR if you want while you look for a YZ250.
Thanks for the offer Tom. Work is nuts right now but keep me posted on when you're thinking of heading out. I might just take you up on it.........

Having seen me ride you would trust me with your baby? You Motard racers realy are mad! ha ha ha ha!
