Women's Gear

Hey All!

I was hoping to get some input - I've been shopping around for some textile gear and I was wondering what you've found works... or doesn't. I'd also like to find something that's at the very least water resistant and (for the jacket) has a zip-out liner. As I'm planning on being part of a huge riding trip in May, I wanted to be completely ready for whatever Mother Nature feels like throwing at us!

So... any tips?

Thanks ladies!

Joe Rocket makes a jacket - I think it's called "Alter Ego" that starts as a full jacket with zip out liner and you can strip it all the way down to a mesh jacket for those hotter days. It comes with armour.

I wear a JR Meteor textile jacket that I actually like quite a lot. It's water resistant (haven't tried it out in heavy rain but it's great in a light downpour). It has an 18" zipper in the back that you can attach pants to - the JR ballistic pants are made of the same textile.

You should also check out the Clover textiles in Vancouver (Benelli dealership 2nd Avenue near City TV) as they're on sale and look like they're high end jackets.
I have a JR cordura jacket its waterproof with welded seams and a zip out, also zips to common pants...has armour which is also removable. This one is nice cause it has really long sleeves and longer coverage of the rear good for rain.

For lighter weather I have another JR "Phoenix" that is semi waterproof/liner, its warm and nice its a men's small fits better than the women's and I am small... has dual layer armour l(one is removable) Love this jacket:)
Monica, I used to only wear leathers after trying on MANY textile jackets that never fit properly (ultimately, still prefer leather). But Nikki and I both own and love the Alpinestars Rebel Air-flo Textile jacket. This is the only jacket that doesn't 'bulge' in the wrong areas. Very snug and flattering to a woman's body :thumbup I found all these products best suited both wet and hot/dry conditions.

Jacket & Gloves can be purchased from Kevin of Bayside Performance

  • Water-resistant polyester outer shell
  • Heavy mesh on inner arms and sides
  • Back protector compartment with foam back pad for a comfortable and secure fit
  • CE-certified protectors

Teknic pants - Don't see them on Kevin's website, but I'm sure he can order them in for you. BE CAREFUL with sizing. I read reviews online and most ladies said Teknic pants were sized on the smaller size. I usually wear 5/6, the 6 was a 'lil snug so I bought an 8.
Teknic Sprint Pants
  • Above average impact protection
  • Good abrasion protection
  • Excellent weather protection

Thanks a bunch for getting back to me so quickly - you women definitely rock!

Jess - is this the same jacket I saw you with at Timmie's after Big Sisters? And do you know where they are sold so that I can try them on before ordering from Kevin? I just got off the phone with him and he'll have the Teknic stuff on-line again as of February - but I can order the other stuff now...

WOO-HOO!!! Merry Christmas to me! :laughing
I have a Joe Rocket Luna textile. It has a zip out liner and many vents for summer. The only thing that I have found is that the zipper quality of Joe Rocket is poor. The zippers and pulls have all broken on all the pockets and I have had to have the main zip replaced. My next jacket will not be JR for this reason.

Good luck!

Sure is :thumbup Nikki and I both wear a size Small, but it might be too short for you. It rides up a wee bit on us and I'm pretty sure you're taller than 5'2" :laughing btw...if you order the Grey/Black jacket we will literally be colour co-ordinating Silver Belles. Too funny!

I've never seen them at any local dealerships, but you can try mine on and go from there? Alpinestars sizing is not too far off from regular women sizes. So, if you normally wear a medium then a medium Alpinestars should be okay.

Good to hear Kevin's bringing in Teknic stuff. Then, I won't have to keep heading down south supporting the US economy.

Are you heading to Bill's on Saturday? I can bring the jacket and pants for you to try on. Lemme know!

Okay - I think there's no way that my 'kittens' are going to fit into a medium that's just a pipe dream! :laughing and I like the grey jacket... but I'm also liking the red one hmm... decisions, decisions!

Yup, I'm gonna be at Bill's in the afternoon... and (wait for it...) I'm bringin' the hubby! :thumbup So, if you have the jacket to bring with you, I'd love to see it for fit (even though there's no hope in hell of it fitting me lol!) I know it's a lot to ask, but would you be able to bring the gloves too? I'll just have to wing it with the pants! :laughing

Give me a shout or text tomorrow to let me know when you're thinking of making the trek to Richmond, and I'll see you tomorrow er... I guess it's today for me!

I hear ya, sister! I know exactly what you're thinking. My 'puppies' are surprisingly comfortable in a small and they're not exactly chihuahuas. A proper fitting jacket should be slightly snug, but perfect in the shoulder, waist, & arm length.

I'll bring the jacket and pants tomorrow. For some reason I can't seem to find the gloves. I know they're here...somewhere! :)

*biting my tongue* :evil
That's a good boy, Thor :p I know all this talk of kittens & puppies is probably killing ya right now. You can give us your honest opinion tomorrow at Billy's.

I thought you knew....I'm a leg man.
I just really find it extremely funny that you girls are always referring to your funbags as some kind of furry cute little animals is all. see you tomorrow :rockon
Tee hee! Now, you just wait a second Thor (and you had been doing so well at biting your tongue :laughing)... is 'fun bags' is any better? If you prefer, my BOOBIES would never fit into that small a jacket - I'm afraid I might suffocate if I try and squish them into a size they've never even seen! ::roflmao

I don't want to even imagine all the things that must be swirling around in your head if you're not commenting! :devillook

You know I hate to disappoint and I wish I had some naughty thoughts to share but, the only thing swirling around in my head right now is the whirlwind of a year I had in 06'.
It's okay Thor - I forgive you for your lack of naughty-ness! :laughing

I'd really like to hear about what's going on for you right now - sounds like some good things - are you gonna be at Bill's later?

I'm going to be there around 430-500 to help push some bikes around :rockon
