Let me know for next year. I was looking for some (slower) riders to go with this year but all were busy. I will bring up the rear! I need to be schooled in Northern Cali (please).

I think I have the best solution.
Leave bike in Cali for the winter and fly down and ride.
It's cheaper to fly down than drive.
I spent last week in the southern California hills and Arizona,Ok it was a bit chilly in the Arizona mountains but I think it was just a bit cool that week.
Meant to get up to Death Valley but it was a bit cool but awesome riding around San Diego. :)

It's a good way of doing it. The only part about it not great, is that if you want to use that bike stored in SoCal, in NorCal, it's about the same 12 hours of
transportation time to get there as it is from your house here.

Los Angeles is a long way from riding in Norcal in the spring/summer/fall if you wanted to... that is the downside.

Interesting that sept is even better than june for numbers...at least from the random spot I picked.

Either way, I'm hungry to ride cali at some point next season!

Middle of summer is disgusting in NorCal, way too hot. Sept can even be over the top hot some years.

I suggest when looking at areas, hone in on the ones on this thread or other WWD threads for reference.

Could someone post a google map of the fabled RTIS .
There's like 3 ways to get from Oroville to Quincy and they all look pretty fun on a map.

one of the issues with rtits is the ride out after. i think last time there was some talk of simply doubling back to the 70 after. the good part is la porte road to little grass valley road.

that edited route takes you right by a gas station on the corner of clark road and the durham-pentz highway. perfect spot for fuel and some refreshments if the weather is hot.

so just store two bike then, one in LA and one in Redding.

I can understand the temptation to reverse, but the run down thru Forbestown and over to Oroville is pretty nice.

the section to forbestown is good but the last bit to oroville is pretty crappy having ridden it a few times now,

or you could reverse, then come back from Quincy via Bucks Lake. we rode that on WWD 2011 (Rubherdown, Syncro, and I), with a detour at Bald Mtn. nice road, altho it was frikkin cold and actually blowing snow up top (Oct 5)

good times...
yes - totally forgot about that. the road wasn't as fun as it could have been due to the weather. i remember the road crew that was working and had us stopped for a bit near the top thought we were a bit nuts. we were worried we were going to get stuck in the blizzard that was moving in.

i've ridden California in late August / September.. coming back was a shit-show though as there was heavy rain in Oregon..

i was very glad to be hauling the bike on said trip, just turned up the heat n' blasted some tunes enjoying me leather seats on the RSX-S :D

"Day #3:

This was the standard, yet always great, Hwy 36 to Coast, lunch at Eel River Brew Pub in Eureka and then down the 101 to Fortuna where we'd blast back up Hwy 299 towards Redding.

36 was amazing......from old Wildwood store to the road towards Hayfork.......BRAND NEW UNMOLESTED pavement. All the really twisty canyon stuff was days old.

No painted lines on the road, no street signs, just fresh black, perfectly clean pavement.....quite a treat.

After lunch, heading towards Fortuna for our ride on 299......the skies were looking a bit ominous........well, for good reason.......we were rained on for about 75% of the way back.

Stopped in Weaverville for a rest and snuck our bikes under the gas station eaves to get cover before the last leg back to Anderson.

We did manage to get some super turns in down by the river, with dry roads and also had our own with the super tight downhill stuff near the end, which was great. "



Fresh new pavement on 36 must have been heavenly. How is the traffic on 36? Last time i rode it we saw maybe a vehicle an hour. 299 was alot busier though, but tons of fun regardless.
Sounds like a great trip.
